Mark Kirk is in the Naval Reserves. He is gay. Yet he voted against gay people being able to serve openly. WTF! This is not like the earlier diary which linked to Mike Rogers' blog post about Mark Kirk. Yes, I will link to it, but you need to know more about Mike Rogers. He has never been wrong when going public about an hypocritical politician. Not once. Need proof?
In 2004, one of the first public officials he targeted was then-Virginia congressman Ed Schrock because of his voting record on such issues as gays in the military, same-sex marriage and gay adoption. In 2000, for instance, Schrock told the Virginian-Pilot: "You're in the showers with them, you're in the bunk room with them, you're in staterooms with them." Schrock decided not to run for reelection because of the rumors.
In 2005, Rogers blogged about Mark Foley, months before his inappropriate instant-messages to male congressional pages became public and he was forced to resign. The former Florida congressman had a varied record, sometimes voting in favor of gay rights, but at one point voting against adoption by same-sex couples.
That would be the WaPo
Again from the WaPo:
And last October, he says, he targeted Craig -- months before an undercover sex sting in a Minneapolis airport men's room, and before the Idaho Statesman started its months-long investigation. Two years earlier, Rogers notes, the three-term senator had voted for the failed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.
"Hypocrisy," Rogers sneers, "plain, hate-filled hypocrisy."
This dude is for realz yo, and snicker all you want at lowly blog posts, but he was at least part of the reason that Mark Kirk has voted favorably on LGBT issues for most of the past decade. This is not conjecture by a random blogger, it is someone who abhors hypocrisy, and punishes the hypocrites.
Here's what The Advocate has to say:
Citing multiple sources in a Tuesday Blog Active post, Rogers, long known for outing closeted politicians with antigay voting records, alleged that Rep. Mark Kirk, an Illinois Republican who voted against DADT repeal, is gay.
Rogers wrote that following the DADT House vote on Thursday, several sources called him regarding Kirk's sexuality — including two unidentified men who claimed to have had sexual relations with Kirk.
Here's a snippet, but I urge you to read the whole post:
In law school in DC everyone knew Mark was gay," the first source told me. I explained that the information was intriguing, it would not be enough to go on. He continued, "But I had sex with him a number of times." Well, now we're onto something I thought. "Could someone verify for me that you knew Kirk and went to school with him?" I asked. "Yes" was the swift reply. "Could you recall personal details about Kirk that others may not know?" "Yes," he said.
And he did.
I'm not at all in favor of outing most anyone, but when someone sells out their own community, I think they should be called what they are... sellouts. Mark Kirk has run as far to the right as possible to appease what few teabaggers there are in Illinois, so he could win the primary. In doing so, he has disgraced himself to the core of his being.
Edited to change title and a bit of the intro to get the point across better, and add a poll.
