Like a drunk teen who wakes up in jail and is told he has ran over and killed a person asking to be let go, released from all responsibility and given their vehicle back, Big Oil shows no guilt, no contrition and no shame.
Instead of making the drunk driver(s), in this case BP and their friends in the oil industry, get sober by offering them a cup of coffee, taking them off the streets and having them join and go thru an AA program (establish a moratorium), the republican party wants to give them the keys to a 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera and a bottle of 50 year old Chivas Regal Royal Salute and put them back on the road for some street racing (end the moratorium), totally INSANE.
Not only do you put them at risk of killing themselves you put them at risk of killing other people in the process.
Also, republicans say they are the party of fiscal responsibility, but what if the only penalty a drunk teen had to pay to get out of jail after running over someone else was $75? How would that STOP teens from driving drunk? It is ridiculous to think that such a low liability cap would make it less likely for them to drink and drive. This is the same nonsense republicans want Americans to believe when it comes to the $75M liability cap for oil companies.
I'm not saying that drilling is evil but the oil industry has been playing games for far too long with safety, even their own employees when asked what do oil companies care more about, safety or money, they said money. And the problem as most Americans know it to be, it's that, an industry that cares only about their bottom line will never change it's ways.
The oil industry will promise they will change and do the right thing, they said the same thing during the massive Ixtoc 1 spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 1979, they said the same thing during the Exxon Valdez oil spill that occurred in Prince William Sound, Alaska on 1989 and they will be saying the same thing now after Deep Horizon, still ongoing and the WORST of them all.
This is irrefutable proof that the oil industry in 31 years HAS NOT learned it's lesson, they are not about to change their ways in 6 months or a year, the Moratorium needs to be unlimited, the liability cap needs to be unlimited... in fact the only thing that should never be unlimited is the patience of the American people and right now we are FED UP with Big Oil and all the politicians that stand with them and against the interests of the United States, you heard that GOP?
