As the Republican attempt to assure themselves that Sharron Angle isn't too crazy, Mrs. Angle has been proven already to have gone off the deep end.
She has effectively advocated for armed insurrection if Republicans don't take control of Congress in 2010, and the assassination of Harry Reid.
From The Plum Line:
You know, our Founding Fathers, they put that Second Amendment in there for a good reason and that was for the people to protect themselves against a tyrannical government. And in fact Thomas Jefferson said it's good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years.
I hope that's not where we're going, but, you know, if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying my goodness what can we do to turn this country around? I'll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out.
This is a level of crazy that should disqualify her from office, and should qualify her for investigation from the Secret Service. This goes way beyond the right of free speech; she is a public and political figure advocating for revolution and the killing of our elected leaders.
That even Republican Party would embrace such a candidate is almost unbelievable. Words have meaning and power, and there are a lot of folks who will hear her rhetoric, and, given the backdrop of all the Faux type propaganda, perhaps decide to take matters into their own hands.
It should also be noted that Sharron Angle was a member of the Independent American Party, a right wing radical organization that was teabagging before there was a Tea Party. She also has said (and later denied without denying) that she was a member of the Oath Keepers. Combine that with her Scientology based approaches to prisons, and you have a whole lot of crazy all rolled up in one package.
Enough is enough. These people have crossed the line between legitimate political speech and inciting violence. And what is even more frightening is that all too many Americans are buying into it.
Update: Text updated due to the fact that her remarks were made last January. Nevertheless, this sort of "rhetoric" should still be enough to disqualify her from office, and merits investigation by law enforcement officials.
