Last week, SaraBeth posted a Diary about Kossack Black Max's cat colony, Please, Help MizMaggie's Cats, by SaraBeth. The story grabbed my heart, and I followed it all week.
I dreaded the end of the week, b/c they were given a deadline of Friday to relocate the colony, or the kitties would be put to sleep :(.
Well ! Black Max finally updated on Sunday night, and had some good news :-).
Sorry to make you wait until Sunday night ...
... but there is news.
AC issued a fistful of citations, but the AC officer told us what to do to get them dismissed, so we're hopeful we can get that aspect squared away. We have adopted a number of kittens out, and may be able to get a few of the older cats relocated. Unfortunately, Operation Catnip either reneged on its promise to help, or the person who said they would help didn't have their facts straight. There is another group that is supposedly going to help, but we haven't heard anything specific as yet.
Right now our plan is to keep adopting out as many as possible, and TNR/TSR the rest, if someone or some organization will help us do that. I'd like to get it so all the younger cats are either adopted out or relocated, and the relatively small group of older cats (some as old as eight, VERY old for feral/abandoned cats) are spayed/neutered, ear-notched, and allowed to live out their lives right here. The feral cat law in NC protects them once they are spayed/neutered and ear-notched.
We are trying to get an organization to come in and trap/spay/release about a dozen cats. Do you know an organization who might help?
I appreciate your keeping up with the story. You can e-mail me at purplesage23 AT yahoo DOT com for more info.

When I googled, I also found an article in their local media (tv? paper? I'm not sure) that updated the story as well. That article is dated before Black Max's comment, so the deadline on kitties being put to sleep :( is not correct (see Max's comment above).
Anyway!! He's looking for someone who knows of an organization that can help him trap/neuter-spay/ear notch/release the pooties still in residence. The location on the news item is North Carolina (New Hanover County). If you know anyone who can help, or if you can help, won't you please email Black Max? His addy is in his profile, or MizMaggie's is in the news article.
Oh, and the angel MizMaggie also saved a dog from being beaten by its owner once before. In her diary telling us about MizMaggie's kitties, SaraBeth linked that earlier diary which recounted the story of a home-sick MizMaggie saving a dog from an abusive owner. These are true animal lovers !
I can't bear the thought that this story won't have a good ending... I can't stop thinking about them!
