This just crossed the wires and will be brief. The Justice Department will challange the constitutionality of AZ misguided law. It is rather a confirmation than a news and, most likely, Secretary Clinton's recent statements in Equador forced WH hand a bit prematurely but it is still very welcome.
Now a senior administration official tells CBS News that the federal government will indeed formally challenge the law when Justice Department lawyers are finished building the case. The official said Justice is still working on building the case.

As always, Justice Kennedy most likely will be the one to ultimately decide this one, years from today.
But, I am sure the filing of lawsuit and motion to stay the implementation of this misguided law, scheduled for late July, is coming very soon, perhaps, as early as mid July. A motion to stay (or rather a motion for a temporary restraining order, in legal jargon) would be the key. The venue must be chosen very carefuly. The ripeness of the action before the law is implemented and before someone is aggrieved could become a problem for Gov't though but it is clear that DOJ is not going to wait until someone in AZ is thrown behind the bars for looking Latino. Which is clearly a good thing and a direct consequence of having Democratic administration in place.
It is Administration's decisive, non-political step when most of the country, according to polls, support this law. It would be interesing to see implications of the challenge on November elections in Arizona and beyond. One man I would love to forcibly retire is John McCain at the hands of Rodney Glassman.
