This'll be a short, decidedly non-political and unserious diary. More of a request, really, and one of a culinary nature at that.
We've all been there: Students, living at the end of the world (more or less literally in my case; I suppose I could go up to Svalbard to really drive the point home, but that would just be tacky). Now, what's the foremost problem with younglings living alone? Cooking! Now, I don't own a microwave because (i) I detest frozen food, and (ii) that crap is unhealthy anyway, so I have to cook for myself.
Of course, being the brilliant man that I am, I do not have a quaint and ancient volume of forgotten lore cookbook with me, so I'm posing a challenge to Kossacks: Do you know of recipes which your ordinarily incompetent and rather clumsy student can prepare? To refresh people's memories, I'll start with a recipe of my own:
Dauphin's Mushroom Sauce (for Dummies)
Ingredients:
1 to 1 and 1/2 of an onion
Two bits of a garlic clove
Four to six fistfuls of mushrooms (no, not that kind; anything but champignons is passable if it isn't poisonous).
A pinch of salt
Olive oil
A bit of parsley and basil (not for everyone)
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Cut the onion into small pieces and gently fry them until they become glassy. Add finely sliced mushrooms and garlic. Also add the salt and spices. Fry until the water the mushrooms release evaporates. It's a good idea to gently stir the mess from time to time to ensure everything is well-cooked.
When prepared, the leftovers can be used to fry pieces of bread, although more olive oil will probably need to be added since bread soaks it up like a sponge.
This feeds one very hungry student and this quantity of sauce more or less negates the need for meat. It can go together with any red meat and will then feed two or three.
Anyway, the floor is yours. Post recipes as if I were a troll.
