I didn't sleep last night. Im not sure why. Well, i am actually, a gallon and a half of coffee drank over a two hour period produces an effect strongly reminiscent of Ecstasy, but I couldn't tell you why I downed the coffee. With nothing else to do but stare upwards for a while I put on some headphones, turned the punk way up and thought about politics.
I don't remember which talking head said it, but on election night 2008, I heard a quote that will stay with me till the day I die.
Obama's seen what happens when the Democrats have their states, the Republicans have theirs, and then you fight over Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio. We've been there, done that, and the last three times it didn't work out so well for the Democrats. So he skipped past those and just picked some new, different swing states to fight over.
The 'Democrats are Doomed' hypothesis is the conventional wisdom coming into November, and frankly the polling backs it up (although not to the level the Right seems to think it does with gleeful predictions of 100 seat swings on RedState). It's because we let them pick the battlefield. So we need to change some things up. We need new fights.
Quietly, without much of anyone noticing, Obama has racked up the most amazing string of wins for TeamLib(R) since the New Deal. In a year and a half. No one noticed, and yet this will feed a conventional wisdom that it was rejected. And that's not cool with me.
If we're going down, god dammit, lets go down swinging. We need to destroy this monster on the right. Demoralize it. Break it apart. We need new fights. Fuck yo couch, we leave it all on the field, win lose or draw.
And I know I can’t explain
The commotion in my brain
Like a terrifying reality
Deconstructed but inadequately
All gets pointed in the same direction
While the human masses and their vain conceptions
Obliterate each other with impunity
And release the weight of history
Bad Religion - To Another Abyss
I want a multi-billion dollar, 2,000 job National Green Technology Development Center smack dab in the middle of Kentucky. I want relaxed permits and fast tracking for any factory/fabrication plant producing green home products in the state. Appliance-size home mini wind turbines, home-installable solar panels. Produce them there. Make it easy. Tax breaks? Fuck. PAY THEM TO MAKE THEM. I want 15,000 jobs over the next 2 years announced in this field, in that state, before the election. I want ground broke on the aforementioned Development Center before the election. Let Conway trumpet it. Let Paul explain why this is bad federal government over-reach and that you poor saps shouldn't be getting a pay check or have these jobs. Kentucky needs to have a Senator in the (D) column in November.
You dont have to be a racist
to be a Nazi fuck
your mindless nationalism
gives you credentials enough

Harry Reid is now a cause celebre. He put his neck out on the line for us. He got Health Care through the Senate (no small feat) and stuck by it. He tried his damnedest to get us the public option until it came down to bill or no bill. He spent damn near all his political capital on the Reconciliation fix. We spend the next however many months tearing Angle a new asshole. I mean we go all out. Show ads that are nothing but video of her literally running away from reporters while the voice over explains what she doesnt want to talk about. In detail. Crush her. We need Reid to have a mandate. He grew a backbone at some point and seems to enjoy using it. Let's give him some more capital to spend.

Bad Religion - Social Suicide
Every Republican candidate gets the Barton question. 'Yes or no, do you consider having BP set aside a fund to pay damages resulting from the oil spill, modelled after the 9/11 Victims Fund and held by the same administrator, to be a 'shakedown', as members of your party, including the Republican Study Committee, have called it?'.
Pin them with this. The right-wing blogs are up in arms that Barton was made to apologize. Redstate had a post up chastising him and the comments were LIVID it was up. This is a deeply held issue for the tea party sect. They were screaming for Cantor and Boehner to resign for making him apologize. If they agree to the statement, we crush them (the crux of the frontpager's argument over at RS), and if they dont agree, it deflates enthusiasm on the right. This is win-win for us.
What are we gonna do now?
