COLUMBIA, S.C. — A mixed martial arts fighter has died from brain injuries in his professional debut.
The Aiken County coroner said Monday that 30-year-old Michael Kirkham died from bleeding inside the brain. Coroner Tim Carlton said Kirkham collapsed following Saturday night's fight at the USC Aiken Convocation Center
I knew this was going to happen. Any normal person that ever watches one of these Mixed Martial Arts fights cringes at not only the fighting, but as to where we are as a society. It's more of a shape of things to come. If this "sport" is considered the norm, we are so screwed as a people. There will be many who jump on this and say, oh this is a great sport, and its safe, and look how bad boxing is.. I believe you are a barbaric idiot then.
This guy that died yesterday was not the first. I Just think it's so weird to have this type of stuff on the tee vee machine, and there you are a parent, paying for this stuff so your 16 year old has something to watch. Really? You don't see a problem here? Some defend dog fights as a way of life. Ok. Your way of life is sick. That makes you a sick person.
So, to all of you mixed martial fight fans out there, you got your dream match. You got to watch a guy kill another guy by kneeing the guy in the face and head repeatedly.
Since this stuff is on cable, there aren't any FCC regulations for them to even consider taking a second look at what this MMA fighting is all about.
So here we are. This is considered acceptable by a lot of people.
I'm not shocked. We are so screwed.
