Eric Cantor, the spokesperson for the Republicans in the House of Representatives as their Whip, is again out in the lead for the Republicans attacking the President's speech on immigration even before he delivered the speech.
He did not mention the intersting fact that his wife is Managing Director of a division of Emigrant Bank and its claim to fame is its strong support of the immigrant community since 1850, as set out below the jump
The President gave a strong speech this morning calling for bipartisan support, mentioning that President George W. Bush supported immigration reform and noting that without the support of Republicans no bill can pass. The pre speech attack on the speech of the President was done by Congressman Eric Cantor, the House Republican Whip.
Calling Immigration System ‘Broken,’ Obama Pushes Bill
By PETER BAKER
Published: July 1, 2010
WASHINGTON — President Obama pressed Congress on Thursday to pass comprehensive immigration legislation to fix a "fundamentally broken" system by toughening enforcement of existing laws while creating a path to citizenship for many of the 11 million people in the United States illegally.
. . . .
Republican critics said that still amounted to amnesty for millions of people who broke the law and would only encourage continued illegal migration.
"Part of the reason why we have been so successful in this country is because we live by the rule of law," Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, the second-ranking House Republican, said before the president’s speech. "We do live by its enforcement and transparency in our judiciary. And I think some of the ire right now surrounding the immigration issue is having to do with the illegal immigration and, frankly, the flouting of the law."

A little history on Eric Cantor is of interest since he is married to a lawyer who is a managing director of a bank, but not just any bank, Emigrant Bank.
Cantor was born in Richmond, Virginia. He was graduated from the Collegiate School in 1981, earned a baccalaureate at George Washington University (where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity) in 1985[5] and a juris doctorate from William & Mary Law School in 1988, and received a master of science degree from Columbia University in 1989.[2]
Cantor met his wife, Diana Marcy Fine, on a blind date; they were married in 1989.[3]
. . .
Mrs. Cantor is a lawyer and certified public accountant. She founded, and from 1996 until 2008 was executive director of, the Virginia College Savings Plan (an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia.) She was also chairman of the board of the College Savings Plans Network.[6][35][36] Mrs. Cantor is a Managing Director in a division of Emigrant Bank, a subsidiary of New York Private Bank & Trust Corp.

The typical description of Emigrant Bank notes its long history of serving immigrants who had no access to established banks.
Emigrant Savings Bank
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Emigrant Savings Bank is the oldest savings bank in New York City and the largest privately owned bank in the country. As of December 2007, Emigrant has 35 branches located in the New York metro area and has assets of $14.3 billion.[1] It also offers an account called Dollar Savings Direct, which offers a relatively high floating interest rate but requires a $1,000 minimum deposit.
. . . . .
The bank was founded in 1850 by 18 members of the Irish Emigrant Society with the goal of serving the needs of the immigrant community in New York.[1] The headquarters used to be at the Former Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank on Chambers Street.
. . . .
Can you imagine the conversation at home tonight as she asks why he had to attack immigrants and talk about them "flouting the law" when the place she works has all the promotional material about the strength of the hard work and saving dedication of generations of immigrants as a basis for the quality of Emigrant Bank?
Once again, Eric Cantor, for the Republicans, shows he has no sense of right and wrong, personal or professional integrity and no sense of the history of this country. His role is to attack the President, no matter how disgusting his statements and positions are when read by the public, or probably, by his wife and one can assume, by her co Directors of Emigrant Bank.
