but, don't worry, it's all my fault. Really. Remember when I enthused about being rehired? well, in my mTBI cognitive fog, I hadn't. After being laid off, I had enough money to pay my rent through May. I was moved into this unit from the firetrap I was in so they could finally bring it up to code by installing a fire escape.
What about unemployment, you say? Well, my former employers decided that B&H Photo was actualy located in New Jersey, where I live and not in NYC. I can't collect unemployment. from either NJ OR NYS. On the bright side, I should be a NYS Real Estate Agent before I go to court, but I'll be on commission only. Trade-off?
June and forward is another issue. The jerks who manage this property have no qualms about not spending money to maintain it, but miss a month's rent? LOOK OUT!
When I moved into this place in March, I informed the property mgrs that a screen was torn and a window was broken. It's July, they are still torn and broken, but now, I am also delaying with bed bugs, which I informed them in May about. I'm trying to eradicate them on my own.
I got my pay/die notice two weeks after the June rent was due. Today, after committing a felony by prying my mailbox open - I was never given a key for it, there was the notice from the Superior Court. I have no intention of letting these fools kick me to the street, but I have no way of paying my arrears - except via the NJ State Emergency Assistance program, (is there money?) or by convincing the Court, that the last 6 months in the old firetrap unit, should be applied to the next 6 months in new firetrap unit. or tell the court I am on a Rent Strike til my repair requests are met?
Since I've lived here, three years, now, the building has deteriorated: There is no security door, the glass and the metal bottom have been kicked out, the intercom system doesn't work and hasn't worked in about a year and a half, and, the fire escape(s) are currently blocked by debris and garbage:
My escape:
the building my escape route is through:
yes, that is garbage under the other set of stairs. it's been there for about a month.
Did I mention there was a murder here last month?
It's all very unexciting really. Been there. Done that. Ain't gonna let it happen. The rent will be paid, but how?
