What BP might be up to is a hugely under-reported story.
Here is a link to an Australian report about the US Department of Justice taking unprecedented action against BP.
BP bows to US over asset sales
Although you can read the story yourself the interesting part states:
BP has agreed an unprecedented deal to give the US government the last word on worldwide asset sales, mergers or corporate restructuring.
The move is in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster.
The oil giant has bowed to pressure from the Department of Justice, which has asked to be notified at least 30 days before BP undertakes any transaction that could affect the future shape of the company.
Tony West, the US Assistant Attorney-General, wrote to Rupert Bondy, BP's general counsel, on June 23, demanding that BP inform the department in advance of "any planned or contemplated events that may involve substantial transfers of cash or other corporate assets outside of the ordinary course of business".
It also said that BP should inform the Administration of any "corporate restructuring, reorganisation, acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, sales, divestments or disbursements".
So I have to think maybe the Justice Department knows something. What do you think?
