RKBA is a DKos group of second amendment supporters who also have progressive and liberal values. We don't think that being a liberal means one has to be anti-gun. Some of us are extreme in our second amendment views (no licensing, no restrictions on small arms) and some of us are more moderate (licensing, restrictions on small arms.) Moderate or extreme, we hold one common belief: more gun control equals lost elections. We don't want a repeat of 1994. We are an inclusive group: if you see the Second Amendment as safeguarding our right to keep and bear arms individually, then come join us in our conversation. If you are against the right to keep and bear arms, come join our conversation. We look forward to seeing you, as long as you engage in a civil discussion. RKBA stands for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
1911s has the defensive gun uses today:
Walterboro, South Carolina (alt) stolen gun, grabbed from perps, used by intended victim
Colton, California (alt)
Cincinnati, Ohio (alt) weird one: shots from both sides but no one arrested?
Lompico, California (alt) shot the dog attacking delivery guy (article gone from original website)
Macon, Georgia (alt)
Dallas, Texas (alt) male companion assaulted woman, she got her gun and shot him
Newport News, Virginia (alt) the perp was warned, ignored it, and got shot for it
Grenada, Mississippi (alt) (lousy link, use alt first) gunfire chased them away but they got caught later robbing another place
Louisville, Kentucky (alt) home invasion, they shot first, perp shot in head and killed
Minneapolis, Minnesota (alt) attacked a bouncer with a knife, got shot dead
KV found a funny picture. On a completely related note, KV supports the legalization of marijuana.

A Few Blocks, 4 Years, 52,000 Police Stops
small army of officers, night after night, spends much of its energy pursuing the controversial Police Department tactic known as "Stop, Question, Frisk," and it does so at a rate unmatched anywhere else
The officers stop people they think might be carrying guns;
These encounters amounted to nearly one stop a year for every one of the 14,000 residents of these blocks.
The encounters — most urgently meant to get guns off the streets — yield few arrests. Across the city, 6 percent of stops result in arrests. In these roughly eight square blocks of Brownsville, the arrest rate is less than 1 percent. The 13,200 stops the police made in this neighborhood last year resulted in arrests of 109 people. In the more than 50,000 stops since 2006, the police recovered 25 guns.

Beyond Guns: N.R.A. Expands Agenda
the N.R.A.’s lobbyists worked with the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, to include a little-noticed provision banning insurance companies from charging higher premiums for people with guns in their homes.
With a push from the N.R.A., a popular bill last year restricting credit card lenders came with an odd add-on: It also allowed people to carry loaded guns in national parks.
And the gun lobby put potential supporters of the Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan on notice this month that a vote for her would be remembered at the ballot boxes in November.
"The last two years have been a disaster for us," said Representative Carolyn McCarthy, a New York Democrat and a longtime advocate of increased gun control (ED note ..LOL..)
The headline on a recent blog post from a rival faction, the Gun Owners of America, singling out the N.R.A.’s exemption from the campaign finance bill, captured the sentiment:
"The N.R.A. Sells out Freedom to the Democrats."
A point of contention on both the left and the right is the N.R.A.’s close working relationship with Mr. Reid, the Senate leader who helped get a number of pro-gun rights measures included in broader bills. That relationship has led some gun rights supporters to lobby against the idea that the N.R.A. might endorse Mr. Reid in his tough re-election campaign this November in Nevada. The N.R.A. is not tamping down speculation. While Mr. Cox said the group had not decided on any endorsements, he pointed to what he considered an unattractive alternative if Mr. Reid loses and the Democrats hold power. "I’ll give you four words: Majority Leader Chuck Schumer,"

Ashton Kutcher Tweets pic of his machine gun wielding wife Demi Moore
By MAIL ONLINE REPORTER
Last updated at 11:34 AM on 14th July 2010
Ashton Kutcher just loves Twitter, and his favourite subject to Tweet about is his wife of five years, Demi Moore.
Yesterday the actor Tweeted a picture of Moore firing a machine gun at a gun range, with the message:' This is why we don't mess with Mrs Kutcher'.
Moore looked like a firearms natural, which is not surprising as she has plenty of experience with them, both on and off screen.

Shadan7 has this for us today:
Here's a classic: http://slog.thestranger.com/...
A gun's sole reason for existing, its only purpose, is to kill. It is a murder machine. A handgun in particular is not useful for anything but killing other human beings. It is a totem that is used for weak, mentally challenged babies to feel secure about themselves because they carry around this tool of murder.
This should sound familiar, since we tend to see variations on the theme here at the Great Orange Satan. But it's from a decent discussion at SLOG, about a candidate who was carrying when they came in for an interview:
Never a dull moment if you're on the Stranger Election Control Board...
This morning we were conducting an endorsement interview with candidates from the 3rd Congressional District when, all of sudden, one of them admitted to packing a concealed Kahr PM 9. Right here in The Stranger offices. (With a concealed weapons permit.)
"You never know when you're gonna need it," the candidate told us.
And things went downhill from there.
TG's Food for Thought:
If it is true, as some people say, that "no one is trying to take away your guns," then why did the Supreme Court recently decide that those who actually are trying to take away people's guns are not allowed to do so?
