Complex economic discussions often lose the fundamental aspect of a well-functioning economy. We need good, stable jobs. This isn't just about home mortgages, although it helps with that. It isn't just about providing demand for goods. Stable jobs promote civil commitment to communities, and a stable environment for families.
We have had endless policies, which have weakened unions, and outsourced jobs. Campanies no longer provide stable employment. This uncertainty causes endless stress for many, and destroys lives. It is defended as creative destruction, but is that really the case?
Why do so many modern companies unstable? The most common explanation is technology, and a changing environment. However, why can't current companies adapt? How does firing the staff help the company?
In many cases, we encounter fraud, incompetent, and corrupt leadership. We have a corporate leadership, which needs to suck all the money out of the company, or they answer to finaniers who are. Under this type of thinking, a company is a bunch of assets to be thrown around at will. Workers are not valid stakeholders in a company.
This philosophy works its way up to governmental policy. Congress puts a lot more effort into tax breaks than creating jobs. Corporations are treated more like citizens than the actual citizens of the United States. This philisophy is wrong.
We need an economy, which is focused on creating jobs for people. Companies should be focused on how best to put their employees to work. Not, on how to cut the payroll. This can be accomplished via unionization, and stronger worker protections.
Stable jobs produce many external benefits as well. They strengthen communities, and allow people to have happy lives. The economy has lost focus, and needs to be fixed.
