Within hours of being blasted by Rick Sanchez over on CNN, Fox News' personalities began to attempt to pivot on the story about Shirley Sherrod. They're now claiming they had no responsibility for it, that they did not air it, but instead they posted it on their website.
Last night, Fox News personality Bret Baier began Fox News' retreat from the story:
This was repeated, buried, in CNN.com's latest story about the Sherrod incident.
Fox News anchor Bret Baier, however, noted on Wednesday that "Fox News didn't even do this story. We didn't do it on Special Report. We posted it online."
I'm not sure why they think that makes any difference whatsoever, but it's a lie nonetheless.
As you can see here, Fox News personality Megyn Kelly reports on the Shirley Sherrod "incident", showing half the video as part of the report:
Of course, Fox News backing off on this story is understandable. The blowback on this one is going to be incredible for Fox News. All decent people who consider themselves non-racist or anti-racist find repugnant Fox News' smear of a black woman, and the fact that Fox News was caught in the lie within 12 hours by its competitor CNN makes it even worse for them.
