The blackwoman has been quiet long enough. Some things need to be said and since no one else seems to be saying, I will.
I am amazed the the black community here at Daily Kos has so little to say about the current state of Black America and so much to say about the past.
If I didn't know better I would think that this is indeed a post racial society where black folk can turn their attention to ancient times and peoples and away from the reality of life as a black person in this nation at this time in history.
Whether we hear about it or not, we are well on our way to another Civil Rights Movement. The age of Jim Crow has become the modern age of James Crow and it's time those of us who see it begin to shout it. Loud and often.
Thank God for Adept2U and This Is My Time for addressing some of the issues that we cannot afford to turn our backs on.
The irony is that for many the NAACP has been irrelevant for quite some time. Yet it is the NAACP that called out the TeaParty and their unrelenting racist bullshit.
Anyone who claims an interest in black community ought to be doing likewise. Jesse??? Al???
Anyone truly interested in the affairs of black and brown people in this country ought to be screaming to high heavens at the treatment our President receives from both ends of the political spectrum. Failing to do so in my opinion, is a failure of monumental proportions.
That our President is blamed for everything that happens is beyond ridiculous. I see very little difference between Rush Limbaugh's Barack the Magic Negro and the rantings of so called progressives that every thing that happens or fails to happen must fall at the feet of Barack Obama.
The resistance to seeing race and the role this plays is pathetic.
The media fails to address it. Few bloggers on this site address it. Black Kos fails to address it. So I am calling them out. All of them.
What I find most interesting is how the election of a black man as POTUS has effectively shut down any real discussion of race. Race has after all played such a minor role in the politics of this nation. Race is both the history of this nation and it is current affairs. It will be the future until or unless we begin to address it, here and now.
I am making a call to the members of the black community here on Daily Kos to become relevant. To write relevant diaries. To speak the truth about what is really happening in our communities and the represent what black folks around this country feel about this President.
For those who might not know it, ALL the black folk I know and most of the white people I have contact with are proud of Barack Obama. These are people who have an idea of the burdens cast upon his shoulders and are not blinded by the onerous face of racism as it rears it's ugly head in the direction of the White House.
They are not interested in the history of Black Folk in America. Hell, they've lived it. They are interested in forward movement, the acknowledging of what has been accomplished and a plan to move forward in spite of the bullshit thrown constantly in the direction of our President and his First Lady.
I realize that I may well be stepping on some toes today. So be it. To quote Bernie Mac (another brother from the Southside of Chicago)
I ain't scared of you m*therf*ckers!"
Be relevant. Or be gone.
Now run and tell that.
