If Democrats don't find a way to jump start and put in place a job creation program, as I have been harping for over a year, we are in serious trouble going into November.
Barack Obama's job approval numbers are tumbling faster than you can skip a stone in a creek. And though he has time to recover, the sentiment hardens and makes it hard for Democrats in the fall.
Let's look at this realistically. This White House has repeatedly not fought back on some of the basic things many voted Obama in for. The numbers for health care is horrible and this is supposed to be a huge legislative victory, but there is a disconnect here. The people out here are not getting the message and many still don't understand this law. But they sure get the shit continued to be slung by FOX NEWS.
I am done tearing my hair out, and that is not literally, because I don't think this White House will ever get it, even after Miss Shirley's episode, those around Barack Obama have not done him any service. And if the White House is ok with this, then hey, deal with whatever may come.
A new national poll suggests that major legislative victories for the Democrats this week have not helped the party in its goal to keep control of Congress in the midterm elections.
In May, the Democrats had a one-point edge in the so-called "generic ballot" question. But a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday indicates the Republicans have a 49 to 44 percent advantage when voters are asked which party's candidate they will vote for in their congressional district.
"Some of the biggest losses for the Democrats have come among senior citizens," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Among seniors, Democrats had a two-point edge in May but the GOP is currently winning 56 percent of that group."
The only bright spot for the Democrats is a significant drop in the number of Republican voters who say they are extremely or very enthusiastic about voting this year - from 54 percent in May to 42 percent now.
"But the number of Democrats who are enthusiastic about voting in the midterms has also dropped, and still lags 15 points behind the GOP," adds Holland.
That enthusiasm gap needs to be closed and quick. But I don't know what the Democrats can do to close it. The Americans have been in a funk and they are not satisfied.
Now the cratering numbers:
Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling the economy?:
Approve 42%
Disapprove 57%
Which of the following is the most important issue facing the country today?
The economy 47%
The federal budget deficit 13%
Illegal immigration 9%
Health care 8%
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan 8%
Education 6%
Energy and environmental policies 3%
Terrorism 4%
Let me be clear, why would ANY POLITICIAN focus on the deficit, RIGHT NOW, when this economy is in a free fall? Are these politicians getting the message that American public is dishing out? And why is the White House listening to this deficit noise?
This election is about JOBS, UNEMPLOYMENT, this ECONOMY, period. This other stuff is an after thought. Most Americans know someone unemployed and can not find a job. Those who have jobs are just hoping they can keep it. No one is out there purchasing cars, homes, but holding onto money for necessity items only.
Why is it that these politicians don't get this?
If the Democrats don't start swinging a bat, putting forth a jobs programs and run on it, they are not going to be re-elected.
No one out here is fired up and ready to go, when they don't have car fare to get there!!
Lastly, I know this election will be about which party is better and the American public don't like EITHER, but the Democrats need to have their communication to the public much better than what we have witness the past 18 months. And Barack Obama is the Head of the Democratic Party, not the Bi-Partisan Party but the Democratic Party and we all expect much better communication from him and the rest going past August.
August is knocking on our doors, Labor Day is soon here. If these poll numbers continue in this direction, we have huge problems going into November.
