We can use my dad’s barn and my mom can make the curtains let’s put on a protest! You know every once in awhile it’s good for the heart to get out from behind the keyboard and do some old fashioned yelling at folks, and I propose Fox.
This last week has had me so angry that I find I can barely type an entire sentence without a strong curse word in it. The incident surrounding Shirley Sherrod is but the latest in a long series of outrages from America’s Radio Rwanda Fox News to make me want to tell them something about themselves and in the spirit of generations of great Americans I say we do.
Jump the fold if you smell what the Adept is cooking.
As I reflect upon the character assassination of Shirley Sherrod perpetrated by Andrew Breitbart and Fox News I’m most struck by their lame ass excuse. We didn’t fire her. No you didn’t fire her. She didn’t need the funky job or she would have accepted it back the moment it was offered. No what you did was to steal this woman’s reputation. She had her job, multiple apologies and a call from the President within 48 hours of your distortion, but if you were to cruise the various threads surrounding her story on the internet today you will find a solid percentage of people who continue to call her a racist. More ominous there are people who are expressing genuine hostility. Shirley Sherrod is being threatened. No apology will be able to un-ring that bell, and aren’t we all tired of them just getting away with it.
On August 28th Glenn Beck intends to Sherrod the legacy of the MLK I have a dream speech. I propose that we counter this affront with action. There is no doubt Fox is the engine powering this juggernaut of hate and race baiting it. On that date while the inflated numbers of tea baggers are attempting to steal the fire of that great event let’s answer them by protesting their media arm.
Every market in America has a Fox affiliate that we can express our displeasure to and I propose we do it. August 28th I will be standing in front of Fox Los Angeles. I’m going to take a bullhorn this time to save my voice, and I’m going to let them know that there is at least one person who is concerned enough about their behavior to hit the street over it.
The protest above was so much fun, and it was sparked over a question in a debate about a flag pin. Fox News has taken to open race baiting and fear of those black as the electoral strategy of its master the Republican Party. If a flag pin is issue enough I damn well do think setting up Black people and organizations as objects of fear is double.
Rachel Maddow has been her usual fantastic self during last week and she asked a question during her best takedown of Fox that best illustrates why we should do something. Something other than ask the president to fix it. We need to confront these people first hand for as she said who is next?
Update: From Jreal in comments who asks for some resources to America's Radio Rwanda's advertisers. Well it just so happens while poking around I do have such a link.
FoxNewsBoycott.com
I haven't poked around deep here but it did seem to have great information at least on the cover.
Update II:
Well now aren't I just the fancy one. I've created a Facebook group for what I hope will be a growing movement. I will follow this initiative up with subsequent posts. Let's actually do some pushing back.
New Facebook group Protest Fox August 28th
Update III
I dont know why on earth this scene keeps jumping in my head, but it somehow seems appropriate.
