In politics, it's a constant effort to raise money. But when you're the underdog, who has no connections, it's like pulling teeth raising money. That's the kind of situation I'm in.
A lot of people have a pre-conceived notion that Democrat Jim Holbert can't win his race for Congress in Kentucky's 5th District. Let me give you the facts:
I can't tell you that we're leading in all the polls or that we've raised the most money. But we are shaking things up down here in Southeast Kentucky and we're starting to get noticed. Unconfirmed reports of polling done by Mason Dixon shows this race to be fairly close, with Rogers at 52% and Holbert at 45%. Our fundraising numbers for this month are the best they've ever been, although they need to be better. Our volunteer list continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and our internet following continues to expand.
Couple this with the growing rift between Republicans (Rand Paul and Congressman Rogers don't like eachother), and you have an outstanding opportunity to turn the 5th District blue.
But people are always hesitant to contribute to the campaign, largely because of this pre-conceived notion that Jim Holbert can't win, especially running on a Progressive platform of ending the wars, bringing back jobs, and securing our energy future. Well, all I ask is "take a chance" on Jim Holbert.
If you want to see more and better Democrats, especially representing the impoverished Appalachian region, we need your help. Jim Holbert needs to raise $5,000 before the end of the month. Hal Rogers has a large campaign war chest and would not hesitate to use it. We need to make sure we're capable of running a competitive race.
