Warning you about a scam via Priceline.com
My fiance came home from her doctor's appointment today and handed me a letter. I was pretty sure it was just more junk mail, but I opened it anyway. Inside was a Payment Due Notice from a company I was completely unfamiliar with - Great Fun.
Concerned about this bill I had received for a company I had never done any business with, I gave them a ring. After speaking with a customer service representative, I came to understand that I had apparently agreed to a recurring 11.99 charge on my debit card all the way back in 2008. I apparently entered into this agreement when I bought an airplane ticket through Priceline.com.
I never willingly entered this agreement. My guess was that it was part of the fine print of the transaction, and when I searched on the issue online, I found a lot of other people had encountered the same problem with Priceline, Classmates.com, and some other companies.
I registered a fraud complaint with the FBI, and spoke at length with their Customer service department. I was assured that they could immediately refund 4 months worth of payments, but I will be calling my bank and contesting the charges for the past two years first thing tomorrow morning.
If you have done business with Priceline or Classmates.com, please go over your bank records with a fine tooth comb. You may have inadvertently been paying 12.00 a month or more to these bastards without your knowledge. The charge is usually 11.99, and it goes to a company called Great Fun.
By the way, things like this are why I believe we need significantly stronger regulations on companies in this country. These sorts of scams illustrate the need for better, stronger, and smarter government.
