Doing one of my many runs around the intertubes....I check silive.com, my local paper's web site and see a headline:
Sarah Palin endorses Michael Grimm in congressional run
Oh Baby! Oh Baby!
Right on the heels of her endorsing Kelly Ayotte in New Hampshire and, according to PPP, sending her approval rating into the dumpster.
A bit more after the Great Orange Void...
Now, NY-13, comprising Staten Island, and a hunk of Brooklyn is nothing like our friends in the Granite State, but it would be so nice if Mama Grizzly's kind word to Michael Grimm, one of the two Repubs running for their nod here, has the same effect on Mr. Grimm as it did Ms. Ayotte.
Michael Grimm really can't get hurt too much by this. Mike McMahon, the incumbent, is incredibly popular around here having been in public service it seems forever. I should note, yes, a lot of people around here were upset with his no vote on health care. In this district, with the bill poised to pass, it was the right thing to do. This district will get a lot bluer come 2012 when the Brooklyn side grows after redistricting.
Grimm supports a typical right wing platform... extend the tax cuts, cut this tax, and that tax...repeal and start over in health care (his web site mentions the Nelson deal for Nebraska as if it actually became law...no mention that it was stripped out...lying sack of shit).
Palin's endorsement comes on the heels of McCain's letter of approval the other day.
A couple of other things not working in Grimm's favor: 1) He was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens. He moved to Staten Island in 1993. For many islanders, that's not long enough. 2) His political rabbi and biggest supporter is former Borough President and Congressman Guy Molinari. Molinari is long passed due around here. He fought to get a NASCAR race track here that 99% of the island didn't want. Thankfully he lost that battle. His last push for Congress resulted in two-family Vito Fossella.
If you read the commentson silive.com regarding this story, you'll see lots of anti-Molinari stuff there... and that's from the wingers!
Anyway, Sarah... if Grimm loses in a landslide, thanks for your help. Come back after November 3rd, I'll treat you to some Denino's pizza...awesome thin crust.
