Haaretz praises the work of President Obama and his administration in the Middle East peace process.
Today's Haaretz praises the decision of the Arab League to support direct talks between the Palestinians and Israel as:
one of the most impressive achievements any American president has ever had in the Middle East
According to today's article Abbas complains that he has never been under so much pressure. Netanyahu has already met with King Abdullah of Jordan. Peres is scheduled to meet with Mubarak. And the Arab League has never supported direct negotiations before.
It is possible that the Arab League doesn't expect progress. Unsurprisingly, they see little hope that Netanyahu is serious about negotiations. But, according to Haaretz, they believe Obama is serious and they do not want a confrontation with Obama and the United States.
The Israeli newspapers don't praise President Obama very often. In fact, neither do the American newspapers. Will there by any praise from the American press for Obama and the State Department?
