Okay, I’ll admit it: That’s kind of a big claim. After all, I don’t know what else you’ll read today.
But I do know that, whether it’s a wacky conservative rant on the Fox News website or a diary on Daily Kos, it’ll load at the same speed.
But imagine if that weren’t the case.
I had a great time at Netroots Nation getting to meet many of you in person, and left feeling energized and motivated for the fight ahead.
But the fight ahead is a big one, and losing it could permanently damage the netroots, the progressive movement, and our democracy.
I’m talking about net neutrality -- THE First Amendment issue of our time.
As I said in my speech, corporations are well on their way to controlling the flow of information in America. The Comcast/NBC merger is just the first domino, and if it happens, the trend towards media consolidation may be impossible to reverse.
These new mega-corporations will control both the television networks that broadcast programming and the programming itself. They will have huge influence over our campaigns (thanks, Roberts Court!). And their next target will be the Internet.
If you don’t want a few corporate monoliths controlling what you can see and say online, you’ve got to join me in fighting back before it’s too late.
I’ve started a petition to protect net neutrality and stop the corporate takeover of our media. And this is one of those times where a petition can really matter. Right now, the government -- which, by the way, has the power to stop this dangerous trend -- is hearing way more from the big corporations than it is from you.
We have to make our voices heard.
At Netroots Nation, I saw that the progressive movement is as fired up and ready to go as ever. And that’s good. Because we have a big fight on our hands to protect the free flow of information in America. And I need you with me.
Please watch my Netroots Nation speech and then sign my petition today. And thanks.
