In today's Q-poll (MoE +/- 2.7), the gap between Richard Blumenthal (D) and Linda McMahon (R) has shrunk and the same is true for the Aug 10 primary between McMahon and on again/off again Rob Simmons. Nonetheless, Blumenthal and McMahon still lead their respective races.
Republican former wrestling executive Linda McMahon trails Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, the Democrat, 50 - 40 percent in the U.S. Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll of registered voters released today. That's down from a 54 - 37 percent Blumenthal lead July 16.
In a separate survey of Republican likely primary voters, Rob Simmons trails Ms. McMahon 47 - 30 percent, with 14 percent for Peter Schiff. This compares to a 52 - 25 percent McMahon lead in a July 16 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.
This doesn't seem surprising. McMahon is on the air constantly, while the already known Blumenthal is not so visible at this juncture. The fun new ad, however, is from Peter Schiff (CT-teabagger), on air attacking McMahon for being a <gasp> liberal. Two problems with that strategy:
- it doesn't really hurt in CT, and
- everyone knows she's not
In fact, in that Q-poll:
Looking at McMahon and Simmons, Republican voters say:
41 - 33 percent that McMahon has the best character and personality to be a U.S. Senator;
39 - 33 percent that Simmons is most qualified to be a Senator;
42 - 27 percent that they most agree with McMahon on key issues;
45 - 25 percent that they most agree with McMahon's positions on the economy and jobs;
54 - 25 percent that McMahon is best able to win the general election.
Meanwhile, Simmons has picked up a few newspaper endorsements (as if they matter these days) from editorial boards that can't stomach McMahon, but that won't stop him from losing next week, and won't stop Schiff from being hit with an atomic knee drop from the top of the ropes crushed in Tuesday's primary.
The other ads frequently seen (they are a lot more energetic) are Dan Malloy and Ned Lamont clobbering each other for the Dem nomination for Governor. Lamont led 46-37 in the last Q-poll, but that was from mid-July. Foley crushes Fedele on the R side in that poll 48-13.
