What's worse than that?
If I am not successful in defeating Sen. Grassley, and at some point over the next six years the GOP reclaims the Senate, he could Chair Judiciary.
It is frightening to think, the man who said Obama would let the government decide when to "pull the plug on Grandma" and has taken more money from big oil, Wall Street and big pharma than individual people, could decide what legal minds are fit serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. Chuck Grassley opposes equal pay for women, stem cell research, equality for all and women's reproductive rights. We must win in November because any litmus test he may impose on nominees is too alarming to think about.
Senator Grassley’s vote against Elena Kagan is proof that Washington is broken, and any bipartisanship in the Senate is on the verge of extinction. Senator Grassley has chosen to vote against two talented, qualified women nominated to the Supreme Court, by a Democratic president, after decades of support for past nominations. This is an incredibly dangerous and disturbing precedent. Voting on a Supreme Court nominee is a serious responsibility and Iowans deserve much better than childish, partisan games.
Elena Kagan is a without a doubt a talented legal scholar and as the fourth woman to ever serve on the bench a role model to young women across our country. I'm proud of our President for nominating her and I'm proud of the Senators who supported her nomination.
I'm going to be hanging around for a while if you'd like to talk.
