I've been doing some web research, and, well...I'm not very good at it. But I do have a crisis that can't wait for my crappy web research skills to catch up.
I'm in charge of putting together a mailing to thousands of Democratic voters. I thought I had more time for this, but we have an event on August 26th with Melissa Harris Lacewell (hooray!) and the date of the mailing has been pushed up. It has to be ready by Sunday, actually.
This is what I'm trying to accomplish:
- Impress voters with what we've done so far.
- Make voters understand how devastating it would be for the Republicans to take over congress.
- Get voters to volunteer for the midterms (canvassing, poll challengers, phone banks, etc.)
I'm ok with #1, I think. And #3 is mostly a matter of rhetoric, which I'm pretty good at. The problem is #2. I know the Republicans were making noise about cutting Social Security, but I can't find the primary sources on the internet -- just a lot of references to it with no links. We have a lot of older voters, so I really want to highlight this. Didn't they have some kind of platform they released with SS cuts and lots of other scary stuff?
I'm also putting something in about Issa's plans to hire investigators, and Michele Bachmann's comment about doing nothing but holding hearings.
Please help -- what will the republicans do if they win in November? Please provide links, too -- I want to use direct quotes and cite reputable sources.
Thanks!
Oh, and what do you think are the most marketable Democratic achievements over the last year and a half? We all know what they are, but which ones will be most attractive to a midterm voter?
(I am Secretary for the Trenton Democratic Municipal Committee in New Jersey, FYI.)
Update: I just thought of another factoid I need -- something that backs up the "Party of NO" label. Maybe some stats on fillibusters, for instance.
Update 2: You know what else would be awesome? Some recent quote linking Republicans to Bush. Didn't some GOPper recently say something about returning to Bush policies on a Sunday talk show?
