The professional left comment will go down in history.
I guess Gibbs forgot who helped him get the job he has now. Well let's remind him.
A classic reminder from Peter Daou from President Obama:
Obama's message to #NN10: "Hold me accountable" - Obama's @PressSec 2 weeks later: 'get drug-tested you lunatics' Glenn Greenwald
And this White House want us to get fired up and ready to go, plus give them money for November?
I am a Democrat. I was born a Democrat. My mother dragged all of us during election cycles to turn the vote out, taught us how to speak to fellow voters, engaged us at meal times about what a Democrat is.
What Robert Gibbs said, is not what this Democrat is and I consider myself a professional and from the left.
I raised over 12K for the Obama Campaign. My sister was a precinct captain for the Minnesota Caucus for the Obama Campaign. My family tapped out monetarily to the Obama Campaign. I made many trips to Iowa that I know how to drive around the Cedar Rapids, Waterloo area without a map or GPS. I am a dedicated Democrat.
But I am not stupid.
I have had my criticisms of the Obama White House, but through this I have taken my time out to contact many people who I touched in 2008 for feedback on 2010. Letting many know how important it is to vote, even if you have to hold your nose.
Well, I am done. I will vote but no money to the Democrats nor my time. And my time is valuable as many others, but with unappreciated comments like that why should I care?
2010 is going to be a blood bath. Why? Because the public has choices to vote us, the Republicans or not at all. Right now the public don't like or care for either party, so that leaves the "not at all vote". It is not that many will vote the GOP, they just won't show up. And now to openly disrespect many members of your base? That is putting fuel on a small fire that can explode.
This on Twitter from Peter Daou from the hash mark professional left:
peterdaou Dear @PressSec, had the despicable "professional left" not fought Bush for 8 years, you wouldn't be in the White House The Hill Story
This comment is spot on. I, for one would never vote for Dennis Kucinich; I, for one knew Obama's health care plan was not single payer but "health care like congress" which he campaigned on; I, for one never compared Obama to Bush because there is no comparison. What Robert Gibbs did was paint a broad brush over many in the Democratic Party and just blew its kneecaps. Gibbs also felt comfortable and took the liberty to voice his opinion which is an opinion that is running rampant in the White House.
Let me tell you something Obama White House. You can have an opinion, but there is something called keeping it to yourself. You just blew your knee caps and possibly stunted money coming to the very organizations that you need it for in November. You also turned off many people who worked hard for the Democrats, but won't be there this fall. And for the many tight races that you need high turn out for in November, these people just may not be there.
Why should they? If you don't care, then why should they. Since many in the left of the Democratic Party are not needed or wanted, then don't expect much of the above. Now Robert Gibbs understands he made a massive blunder and is trying to walk it back, have Gibby and the nuts in that White House hut go out and campaign, knock on doors, beg for money, work a bus on election day, drag folks out to the polls, make phone calls, count the 1-2-3's on a database sheet for voters, listen to voters cheer or complain, let them do it. Because the many volunteers you need were just dissed and for me that means you don't need our help.
For many cheer leading this statement, you got it. You got it all. Time for you to knock on doors now, make money bomb diaries every hour, write your action diaries daily, beg for volunteers NOW, ramp up that enthusiasm TODAY, because you have a hard task ahead of you. Many of these professional left folk are dedicated Democrats who whip out their checkbooks, credit cards and give TIME to support the party. This does not help anyone towards working together in November.
Lastly, Barack Obama needs massive change in that White House. But as a friend of mine's comments all the time, "until his behavior changes, there won't be any change". Until then, he remains in BUBBLE LAND.
