For the last few weeks, Republicans down in Washington have been talking about an extreme proposal to repeal or rewrite the 14th Amendment and deny American citizens the rights guaranteed by our Constitution. It didn’t take long for the extreme ideas coming out of Washington to make their way up to the Granite State.
Yesterday, former attorney general-turned Sarah Palin protégé Kelly Ayotte told New Hampshire voters that she supports proposals to rewrite the 14th Amendment of our Constitution. I wish I could tell you that I was surprised to hear about it, but this is just the latest example of Ms. Ayotte catering to the right-wing of the Republican Party in an effort to score a few political points.
Kelly Ayotte’s support of rewriting the 14th Amendment is yet more proof that she stands firmly with Sarah Palin’s extreme wing of the Republican Party. It is now all too clear that the Kelly Ayotte and Sarah Palin team is only interested in pandering to far-right special interests, instead of solving the challenges before us today.
I want to stand up in the US Senate as an independent voice for New Hampshire, working to create jobs for middle class families, redefining the way we power our economy, and fixing the special interest culture of Washington. That’s why I’m standing firm in my support of the 14th Amendment. I’m going to stand up for the individual rights of every single American – I will never support any proposal to weaken, rewrite, or repeal the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
The Granite State doesn’t need an extreme right wing politician prepared to trample on the rights of Americans simply to score cheap political points.
Let’s join together to send a clear message to Kelly Ayotte, Sarah Palin and other extreme right wing politicians – we’re going to stand up to the special interests and focus on solving the challenges facing America.
