The other day I wrote a diary which lamented the White House's response to the California ruling where I asked Why should I support this guy again?
Many here were unhappy with the diary as you felt it was just another bash Obama screed. Those of us who are gay got to find out what some other members of the progressive community think of our civil rights - they don't matter. Fair enough.
Today some of you on the left who for example think the president should have at least pushed for single payer got pushed under the same bus with us queers.
Today it all became clear...
The White House is playing from the last Democratic playbook.
To my gay brethren, they needed a Sister Souljah. That's us. You know middle America (and as the diary showed more than few here in left land) are apparently still somewhat creeped out by us. So under that bus we go.
So now what next do they need? How bout losing Congress so they have something to rail against when running for re-election? Never mind that losing Congress would be bad for the country. It's the best thing for the President. So trot out Mr. Gibbs, a short while ago saying, yup we could lose Congress and today calling us smokers for having crazy progressive ideas.
They want to lose Congress. They want a de-energized base in 2010 because it's their best chance to win re-election.
Well I'm not going to give them that satisfaction. The only thing I'm de-energized about is them. I will be voting in 2010. I will be voting in 2012. As it stands today, Mr. Obama won't be getting my vote. Other Democrats will.
It's still possible for him to earn my vote again, but he doesn't have it now. At this rate, I hope Mr. Gibbs et al. enjoy their place among the Unemployed Left.
