Well, now that the oil is all gone, and Tony Hayward has got his life back, it's time for us to get on with our lives too, right? Except I have this tickle in the back of my mind. I remember... hearing something about ocean currents? And long-term effects? And the Gulf Stream?
Now what was all of that about? Oh, right:
"Ocean Currents Likely to Carry Oil Along Atlantic Coast"
And computer simulations like the ones you can see here. Remember those? The ones predicting that oil would reach NE states two to three months after the spill began?
So, yeah. Now it's August, three months have passed, and suddenly there are widespread fish kills washing up along Atlantic beaches. Zero Hedge has a roundup of links and vids, and I'll send you there rather than re-link here.
The CNN video states that "oxygen depletion" may be responsible for the fish kills, and ZH goes one step further and puts the blame for any actual oxygen depletion squarely on the shoulders of BP.
But ZH also points out something that should be easy to test: were these fish poisoned with Corexit? If so, it would show a much more direct link to BP's actions in the gulf than "depleted oxygen" in the water.
The fish are right there, laying on the beach. Should be easy to go out, pick some up, and send them to a lab to check if they're full of BP's chemicals. Maybe one of the law firms running the class action lawsuits against BP would be willing to front the cost of the lab tests.
