But not how you think. My name is Ed Marksberry and I’m running for Congress in Kentucky’s 2nd district. Many of you will recall that this was the district, in a 1994 special election, that many called the "bellwether" of the 1994 midterms.
In that year longtime and beloved Democratic Congressman William Natcher died in the spring, requiring a special election. Ron Lewis won over Joe Prather, in what turned out to be a foreshadowing of the 1994 loss of the House by Democrats. Bill Clinton was greatly weakened, and Republicans have held the seat ever since.
Now it’s time to change that.
The current occupant of the KY-02 House seat is Brett Guthrie, who gets a bare 28% from the website TheMiddleClass.org. It not often a bad thing for politicians to be consistent. But my opponent’s consistency largely comes from voting whatever way Mitch McConnell and the Republican leaders tell him to.
He voted against the Wall Street Accountability and Consumer Act which is designed to help prevent a repeat of the financial crash brought about by Republican policies.
He voted against the Affordable Health Care Act of 2009 which would give countless Americans access to health care.
He voted against the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009, which would help make college more affordable.
He voted against the Jobs for Main Street Act of 2009, which was designed to alleviate the unemployment crisis.
Brett Guthrie is one of the go-to guys in the House for Mitch McConnell’s agenda. And that agenda isn’t in line with what the people of this district need.
On the other hand, I believe that Congress needs to enact reforms to bring about greater regulatory safeguards in our mortgage and financial industries.
I support closing corporate tax loopholes.
I support campaign finance reform.
We need comprehensive immigration reform. But part of that must include pushing companies to provide jobs that have working conditions and wages that will attract American citizens.
I’m running against the entrenched, "just say no" Kentucky establishment. You can help. Come visit my campaign site at http://www.edmarksberry2010.com and support me. Together we can make KY-02 a bellwether district again.
I encourage you to contribute at
