The incumbent Democrat in WA-09 is Adam Smith. He's a career politician, having first been elected to the state senate in 1990 at the tender age of 25.

I made my decision not to vote for Rep. Smith at the last minute, while filling out my mail-in ballot last night. I admit I hadn't even considered voting for someone else until my husband, Charley, who was actually reading the voter pamphlet, suggested an alternative. Charley proceeded to read to me the biographical info and statement by Roy Olson, candidate of the Green Party.
Here is link to Roy Olson's Blog which seems to include the same information as the voter pamphlet. See his posts from June 4th.
While I have not been particularly unhappy with Rep. Smith, I am not thrilled that he is a "moderate" Democrat. If he's a member of the Progressive Caucus, he doesn't advertise it on his official House website. Nor is it mentioned on his re-election website. Nor is he listed as a member on the Progressive Caucus Wikipedia page.
I admit that I looked all this up to justify my decision last night, which was rather impulsive, and I can honestly say that I'm happy with my choice.
I expect that Rep. Smith will be one of the "top two" winners of the primary who goes on to the general election in November. If he is the more progressive candidate, which seems likely, I will certainly vote for him, but I'm not going to go out of my way to get out the vote for him, either.
Update: I have also determined that Adam Smith is not a member of the Blue Dog Caucus either, so I guess he's trying to be as middle of the road as possible.
