Well F.O.O., after a fairly relaxing weekend, my stomach decided to start really hurting over night, so I didn't go into work today, so I've got nothing to really "introduce" tonight's diary. So, let's dive right on into "this day in history."

On Aug. 23, 1912, Gene Kelly, the American dancer and choreographer, was born. Sure, he was in Singin' in the Rain, but he also danced with such luminaries as Jerry Mouse & Stewie Griffin!

Actress Vera Miles is 80 today. She was Janet Leigh's sister in this movie that y'all might have heard of.

Finally, in a birthday that's making me feel REALLY old, Rick Springfield is 61 today! AUGH!! Man, I used to think he was the end - all be - all of male humanity.

Why do I suddenly have the urge to yell, "Get off my lawn!"? ;D Speaking of "get off my lawn," will Senator McCentury still have a job after tomorrow? STAY TUNED!

Let's Countdown...

Many thanks to Lawrence O’Donnell for DHing for Keith tonight so he could put in time for his other NBC gig!

#5 "Center of Controversy" AKA "Libertarians for the Mosque" AKA "Islamophobia" AKA "Tea Party Hero for the Mosque" - Rep. Ron Paul, ya’ know...the "good Doctor’s" kid, has given his opinion about the Muslim community center a few blocks from Ground Zero. He’s all for it and has called out anyone *itching about it! HELLO?! I wonder how sonny boy feels about it? How ‘bout this headline on his website?!

Ron Paul to Sunshine Patriots: Stop Your Demagogy About the NYC Mosque!

Well, it’s not a mosque, but his heart’s in the right place, so I won’t quibble about his word choice. ;D Here’s more from Rep. Paul’s website:

The fact that so much attention has been given the mosque debate, raises the question of just why and driven by whom? In my opinion it has come from the neo – conservatives who demand continual war in the Middle East and Central Asia and are compelled to constantly justify it. They never miss a chance to use hatred toward Muslims to rally support for the ill conceived preventative wars. They just want everybody to be ‘sensitive’ and force, through public pressure, cancellation of the mosque construction. This sentiment seems to confirm that Islam itself is to be made the issue, and radical religious Islamic views were the only reasons for 9/11. If it became known that 9/11 resulted in part from a desire to retaliate against what many Muslims saw as American aggression and occupation, the need to demonize Islam would be difficult if not impossible.

Can I get an ‘Amen!,’ boys & girls?

There were protests in the area yesterday both pro & con community center. THAT had to be fun. Lonesome Rhodes was even on Good Morning America 4 years ago with THE GUY WHO WANTS TO BUILD the community center that he & so many others are decrying now. Here’s Professor Melissa Harris – Lacewell; some F.O.O. are going to be happy campers! ;D She dissected just what Lonesome Rhodes might have meant by "good Muslim." Lawrence made a faboo point; when you say someone is a "good {insert minority or whatever here}," that’s assumes the given group is normally all "bad" to begin with! He haz teh smartz! That must be why he’s getting his own show! ;D Yea, why haven’t any Dems come out as strongly for the community center as freakin’ Ron Paul has?! Bobby Ghosh is back, too. Lawrence questioned whether Newtie & St. Sarah from Wasilla would step back because of what Ron Paul said? WRONG! Some tea baggers have actually voiced their support for the community center to Mr. Ghosh; others aren’t so chipper toward the possibility. And, the fact that an African – American gentleman was stopped & harassed because he was wearing a "Muslim – looking" hat won’t give the likes know who...pause, either.

#4 "Fuzzy Math" AKA "Tax Cuts for the Rich" AKA "Why Pay for Tax Cuts?" - Mitchie McConnell wouldn’t tell David Gregory about how to pay for the extension of GWB’s tax cuts for the most uber – rich yesterday. Mr. Gregory smells blood in the water after Small Price to Pay Goldilocks WINNING performance last weekend (?). Except, Mitchie now claims that nothing needs to be paid for because it’s "existing tax law." Huh? O...K... The next time I get groceries or gas up my car, I won’t pay for it ‘cause Mitchie said I didn’t have to! ;D Heaven bless David Gregory for trying over & over & over again. Mitchie has already vowed to

...decrease spending as appropriate to offset such permanent [tax – cut] extension.

How ‘bout all the Congress critters giving up their pay & benefits? That would sit just fine with me!

Lawrence also gave us a little reminder about the reconciliation process that put GWB’s tax cuts on a 10 – year timetable to begin with – because the GOBP in Congress voted for them via that process! David Cay Johnston doesn’t think Mitchie got through grade school math? HA! I wonder if Mitchie balances his checkbook the same way he’s proposing to do these tax cuts? The extension of these tax cuts could make it more difficult for small businesses because it will be more difficult for them to borrow money because of high interest rates. It’s all about supply & demand, folks. If the cuts ARE extended, a way to pay for them MUST be in legislation, and the way to pay for them will be deductions in Medicare, food stamps, & Social Security.

#3 "Regulation Over Easy" AKA "Safety Scramble" - 1300 people have been struck with salmonella because of icky eggs, and nearly half a billion – with a "B" – eggs have been recalled. Huh...well, I don’t think my tummy ache from today was because of bad eggs because I haven’t eaten any eggs lately, and I think I’d be way more sick if I had salmonella. If that’s anything like food poisoning, I’d be praying for death like I was when I had food poisoning!

If new FDA rules had been put in place earlier, all this ilk could’ve been prevented. The place where these eggs came from had a history of not – so – great conditions. The power to give the FDA for stronger recall rules have been stalled in Congress for over a year – your tax dollars at work, boys & girls! *&^%$#@! So, can this egg guy in Iowa at least get sued? Patty Lovera is our egg guide for tonight. There are a very few very big industries producing a heck of a lot of our food, and regulations have been s...l...o...w to catch up. OOoooooo! Congress is going to investigate?! NOW, something will get done – NOT! – especially since stronger food safety standards have been STALLED IN CONGRESS. Idiots!

#2 "Out of the Woods" - Tiger Woods is officially on the market again, ladies! Are a whole lot of ladies actually beating a path to his door after all that’s come out? And, we get a repeat of the fabulously funny Apple Daily "cartoon" of Tiger’s story. ;D

AND, tonight’s #1 story is the repeat of the stunning Countdown investigation that shed light on BOTH President Obama’s AND GWB’s secret Islamic leanings! ;D

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
