It is time, once again, to remind ourselves of how lacking in win the Republicans are. Why? Because it may be the one remaining thing that Kossacks agree on - that, and the eternal supremacy of pie as a poll option.
So follow me below the fold, and I'll tell you of some ways Republicans have demonstrated teh fail in recent days.
One of the greatest known sources of fail is Michael Steele - I suppose that being a black Republican is its own special form of fail, but aside from that, he's not doing so well as the head of the RNC. To wit:
By the numbers, the RNC brought in $5.5 million in July, compared with $11.5 million for the DNC. But only $4.6 million of the haul actually came from donations -- tucked inside the RNC's July report was a $900,000 insurance payment.
The payment came from Illinois National Insurance, a subsidiary of AIG. But Democrats are exploiting the bigger picture of their own financial health and made sure reporters knew about the insurance settlement and that it came from AIG, which received bailout funds.
If we had half the decibels of the RWNM, every news channel in the country would be talking about how the RNC is receiving taxpayer bailout money funneled through AIG. So I guess I have to make an exception to fail: the RWNM is successful at getting the MSM to pay attention to stupid stuff.
Moving on to KY-Sen, this is not the headline you want to see atop your morning paper. Democrats and independents are not going to be pleased that you need to be defended against the charge by your father; Republicans are going to be displeased that you have not embraced Islamophobia.
Despite it demonstrating both insanity and bigotry, Republican figures continue to support the birthers / Obama's a secret Muslim crowd.
Keith Olberman has fun with the idea of Obama the Secret Muslim. Send it to your wingnut friends for head explosions.
John Boehner, who demonstrates that fail may be more than skin deep but can certainly start there, tried to make a speech on the economy. He listed 5 points.
- Extend Bush tax cuts
- Veto EFCA
- Repeal a provision of the HCRA which, at this moment, Republicans are busy keeping intact by blocking action on bills which perform the desired repeal
- Reduce spending like Paul Ryan thinks we should (but he distanced himself from Ryan's budget when it came out, for good reason)
- Fire his entire economic team
(1) and (4) are such epic fail that even the MSM may be forced to acknowledge the epic nature of the fail. (2) is stupid climate change denial and therefore possible eternal fail. (3) is normal GOP hypocrisy. Obama should take him up on #5 and nominate Elizabeth Warren, Paul Volcker, and Paul Krugman to key positions.
In other Daddy Republican trying to save Junior Republican news, Dan Quayle has had to come to the defense of his son Ben.
oak's attacks, which include a campaign ad, center on the junior Quayle's involvement with the Web site Dirty Scottsdale. Quayle has admitted his involvement with the original site. The site has since transitioned into TheDirty.com -- a collection of less-than-family-friendly nightlife photos and commentary.
But when David Vitter can be a 'family values' candidate, so can Ben Quayle.
In Pennsylvania, Chuck Hagel (retired Republican Senator from Nebraska) has endorsed Rep. Joe Sestak (D).
The two-term Nebraska Senator will speak about Joe's independence and focus on doing what's right not for Wall Street or Washington special interests but for Pennsylvania's working families," reads a release from the Sestak camp announcing the news.
It can't sit well with Pat Toomey that even Republicans don't like his special brand of destroying life as we know it.
Even conservatives are starting to realize that Glenn Beck is using them to make Glenn Beck richer. When Glenn Beck loses the trust of his audience and can no longer lie to them with impunity, Glenn Beck will be unemployed. I can hardly wait.
In other Glenn Beck news, he is among the long list of Republicans who like Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf when they aren't busy denouncing him as the source of evil in the universe (or at least near ground zero).
In possibly the day's most epic fail, Sharron Angle has agreed to debate Harry Reid. Now Harry does not exactly exude charisma - but I have to assess the odds that Sharron Angle will get through an extended live TV event where she is asked actual questions without a gaffe as roughly equal to my chances of being named "blue quadruped of the year" by a termite colony.
In scenic Arizona, JD Hayworth is counting on low turnout to help him defeat John McCain - who has betrayed pretty much every semi-moderate stance or utterance of his entire career to fend Hayworth off. Not only do they both demonstrate epic fail, but McCain now smells like month-old fish in a sauna.
Well, that's enough fail for this edition. I hope you all enjoyed the reminder that the GOP is the party of FAIL.
Fail scale ™:
fail: normal lack of win
epic fail: worse than normal lack of win
epochal fail: fail that will be talked about for quite a while
eternal fail: fail that renders it impossible for the failing person to try again
Bush administration fail: the fail against which all other fail is measured, and found to be wanting
