Normally, this would be cause for a celebration. Or at least some significant diary. Well, I had good intentions, but the significant diary never materialized. I was planning to post pictures from my recent kayaking trip, but those haven't been downloaded yet. Eventually, I'll tell you about all the marine mammals we saw, as well as the fabulous visit to the U'mista Cultural Centre in Alert Bay. But for now, I'll just point you to Ojibwa's excellent diary from yesterday on the tradition of the potlatch (there's a relevant part about Alert Bay). I'll also note that Ojibwa has another fantastic diary on the rec list, so make sure you stop by and keep it there!

From Julie Gulden:
quaour will forever be remembered as the peanut butter thread person from LaFeminista's diary What is important. {Ed. note: Sorry – I know you used quotation marks, but I’m not skilled enough with html to have made that work – perhaps someone can enlighten me in the comments.}
From Jan F:
There were a lot of great comments in my diary on Reclaiming Feminism. This comment by DBunn describes the monstrous calculation that Phyllis Schlafly and her ilk made in deciding to rail against feminism. {Ed. note: Sorry a second time – I know you used quotation marks in your diary title, but as I mention above, I’m not skilled enough with html to have made that work – perhaps someone can enlighten me in the comments.}
And this comment by NY brit expat and the reply by angry marmot were an excellent discussion of the failure of -isms and the need for a "single rubric, that of essential human rights and essential human equality."
From bronte17:
RandomActsOfReason posited some interesting questions Are diaries or comments a nonrenewable resource? while Betty Pinson noted the soft bigotries in our internecine battles. Found in citizen k's diary.
And remember those $6000 shower curtains that Ed Tracey told us about... well lineatus explains the costs and how it adds up to a $6000 shower curtain in indiemcemopants's diary Shower curtains today, shower curtains tomorrow, shower curtains forever!
From sardonyx:
In Barbara Morrill's front-page story The RNC's $900,000 'confidentiality provision', missississy has a theory as to where the nine hundred grand came from.
ActivistGuy has a new and novel reason to hate the Red Chinese.
From blueyedace2:
This will probably make the mojo list, but I thought it was sweet enough to send in.
Pickle’s picks:
JekyllnHyde has a wonderful cartoon in FiredUpInCA’s recommended diary.
