The latest reason the fundies have dug up to oppose gays in the military proves they're only grabbing at straws.
Back on July 30, the Daily Telegraph reported that Bradley Manning, the guy who leaked the Afghan war files to WikiLeaks, is openly gay. OneNewsNow has seized on this as proof that gay soldiers are a threat to national security.
Cliff Kincaid, president of America's Survival and editor of Accuracy in Media, is concerned about reports that Manning had been blatantly open about his homosexuality for more than a year and apparently held a grudge against the U.S. military because of its ban on homosexual military service. He thinks the military should have recognized that Manning was a security risk.
According to Kincaid, the Soviets frequently recruited gay soldiers because they were easily exploited. Never mind that anyone who knows anything about the Soviet Union would know that the Soviets were even more homophobic than we ever were.
Kincaid goes even further in a column on his site, America's Survival. He argues that if the military had simply booted Manning out once evidence that he was gay came to light, this wouldn't have happened.
I can only conclude that this is just pure shrill. Would Kincaid be nearly as upset if this guy were straight? I doubt it.
