I really don't. The man's antics I find amusing and sometimes I sincerely wonder if the man needs a psychologist but other then that I don't care. I also don't care about his rally.
I don't care whether people thought it was 'inspiring' or an 'exercise in hate'. The fact is that man has his admirers and in general I personally don't agree with their policies or where they think this nation should go.
So can we please cease and desist giving the man attention? If the common wisdom here is right that's exactly what the man wants. So why in the freaken hell are we giving him what he wants?
And why in the hell are we wasting time on him? After all there is an election coming and there are so many races that need help, be it volunteers, donations or just talking to your neighbors.
So instead of talking more about Glenn Beck let's talk about races that need our help be it as the DK community or as whoever is in the area that can lend a couple hours a week hitting the pavement.
Mostly I mean this to be about the underdogs, the so called dark horses but really it's past time we tried to organize some thing for all races. I am open to suggestions as at this point it's more intention then plan at this point.
I am talking about people like Grier Raggio who is taking on Pete Sessions. And before people call that a quixotic bid I'll point out that McCain only won this district by a couple points and that Sessions is a long term incumbent. It's possible but we as a community need to stop this silly nonsense of falling for every GOP distraction like a cat after a shiny object.
If nothing else just put names out there and me or hopefully others (as I might not be able to do them all) can draw up some portraits of their positions, why we should support them and so on.
So I am going to turn over the floor now as I want this to be more community driven. Give me names, give me ideas, give me suggestions but for the love of the dream we all have of a more progressive nation let's get to work.
update 1 Not how I wanted to start this but this is not about Beck. This is about the election, primarily about races like Grier's that are winnable but hardly if ever get coverage on the front page nor the rec list. It's past time to stop acting like it matters what Beck believes and get to work. And if nothing else I guess that means I am volunteering myself so bring out the candidates that don't get attention and I or any other volunteers I can get for this project will write about them. We pride ourselves on our ability to act so let's start doing that
update 2 More information has been requested about Grier and largely what I have so far is his bio which is fairly impressive. He was one of those that went to Alabama and Louisiana during the Civil Rights Movement in his 20s. As a legal aide he frequently represented the poorest citizens.
Also I need to give a shout out to CoolOnion for his impressive diary back in 09 about Grier
I'm still digging though his positions having only recently found him but this blog entry shows to me that he's not pulling any punches.
And as seen on Open Secerts he's going to need some help with Sessions having a sizable but not overwhelming CoH advantage.
update 3 Here's Grier's thoughts recently on unemployment and I have to be honest that Grier seems to be running less on any particular position (outside of health care) and more against Session's corruption and way to cozy relationship with big business. But what I have read is encouraging.
Also I want people to remember this is about races like Grier's. I know there are more out there and I am hoping people know of some. Some that need the attention like Grier
update 4 A HUGE shout out to papicekwho created an act blue page for Grier here
And one I intend to use frequently. I've decided 2 things one I would like to see a network created to get action diaries more visibly and second till the election hits it will be my mission to be annoying and down right stubborn by publishing a diary every day to get a candidate support and donors. I encourage any one with ideas or wanting to help in that to let me know as we are stronger together.
