The "this day in history" cupboard is rather bare today, but I did manage to scrape up a couple items.
Frank Lee Morris was born on this date in 1926. I can just hear some of you saying, "Who the spark was Frank Lee Morris?!" Well, Frank Lee Morris and 2 others managed to escape from Alcatraz. They were never seen again. If they died in the process, their bodies have never been recovered; if they made it, they were awfully darn quiet. I'd like to think they made it! ;D The Mythbusters made it! :D
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's book comes out today. He's always going to be GWB's lap dog to me.
Let's Countdown...
#5 "Tea Trouble" AKA "Storm in a Teapot" AKA "Populist Anger" - There are now 5 tea bagger candidates for Senate after Lisa Murkowski’s concession last night. NOW, "establishment" Dems are begging for help from unions – the same unions they poo – pooed during the HCR debate. Hypocrisy is truly party – blind, ain’t it! Joe Miller did not get an endorsement from the soon – to – be former Senator from AK. Mr. Miller’s stance on abortion was a central issue in his campaign at the same time an initiative was on the ballot that called for parental notification if their teenage daughter wants or gets an abortion. He also wants to SLASH federal spending, but he surely can’t mean all the federal coin that goes to the "land of the midnight sun," can he?! ;D Yea, I know; don’t call me surely.
Ms. Obtuse Angle has an interesting take on the difference between primaries & general elections! Of course, that "logic" should open the question of "Which {insert tea bagger candidate here} is the REAL {insert same tea bagger candidate here}?" St. Sarah from Wasilla’s just thrilled Mr. Miller won. To briefly go off – topic, did any of y’all read that new Vanity Fair article about Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover? HOLY $HIT! I’ll have to provide a link to it.
President Obama is going to rally with the AFL – CIO among the Cheddar Heads over Labor Day weekend. Did I hear Keith say that much campaign verbiage is going to spew against those GOBP that voted against unemployment benefits?! I’ll believe it when I see/hear it. David Weigel’s back! Those tea baggers are learning how to outsmart "establishment" GOBPers; other candidates who didn’t lose are forced to move WAY to the right. David brought up that ‘ol enthusiasm gap among Dems. Dem candidates aren’t running on what was accomplished. Here’s Richard Trumka, president of the AFL – CIO. He thinks the choice is very clear. Stay with the Dems & keep the process going, or go back to the GWB Congress critter years. And, what about what HASN’T been accomplished up to this point in President Obama’s administration? Keith asked 2 questions to Mr. Trumka about tea baggers. I can answer the first one! Tea baggers are able to pull the ‘ol switcharoo concerning their astroturf nature because THE MEDIA is buying into it & putting it on their airwaves 24/7! Mr. Trumka then proceeded to tap into his "inner Deepthroat" by telling people to follow the money! Yep, put "You can’t beat something with nothing!" on a bumper stickers since a bumper sticker seems to be the extent of people’s attention span these days. Here’s the Vanity Fair article about St. Sarah from Wasilla.
#4 "Simpson VS. Vets" AKA "GOP: Vets ‘Not Helping’" - Former Senator Alan Simpson is just making friends with all kinds of people these days, ain’t he! Did the "good" Senator receive any deferments involving military service, or did he actually serve his country? More diseases caused by Agent Orange are now going to be covered & treated for our brave Vietnam vets that got to breathe all that $hit in. And, here’s Senator Simpson sticking his foot in it AGAIN!
It’s the kind of thing that’s just driving us to this $1 trillion, 400 billion deficit this year...The irony [is] that the veterans who served this country are now, in a way, not helping us to save the country in this fiscal mess.
And, no, this latest outrage won’t be enough for his dismissal stage right from the deficit commission.
Paul Sullivan, from Veterans for Common Sense, would like Senator Simpson gone! I wonder how Senator McCentury feels about what Senator Simpson had to say about Vietnam vets him being one of those his own darn self? If HE said something about Senator Simpson’s latest outrage, THAT might be enough for him to be gone from the commission. What do you all think? Veterans for Common Sense, back in 2002, poo - pooed the seemingly – forgone – conclusion that we’d invade Iraq and also pointed out that the VA at that time was absolutely not prepared for the injuries of various natures that soldiers would be coming home with. Mr. Sullivan was a great guest!
** People are seeing Christ on a pole in LA. Odd...He usually shows up in a tortilla or a grilled cheese sandwich! Maybe, Jesus wanted a bit more of the great outdoors – HA! Check out those French mud sculptures! People in El Salvador are tossing fire balls at each other. Does Markos know about this stuff? **
#3 "Revisionist Historians" AKA "Credit Where It’s Due" AKA "Iraq: Thanks to Bush" - Neocons are crying in their defense contracts because President Obama didn’t heap enough praise or gratitude toward GWB’s direction during last night’s speech. OK, I’ll do it; THANKS FOR NOTHING, GWB & FELLOW CABALLERS! There...ya’ satisfied?! Bill Kristol didn’t have much of a problem with the speech. Peter Wehner called President Obama a "...not particularly gracious man."??!! And, THIS guy served under a President who learned his gracious nature in a Yale frat house & never LEFT said Yale frat house. Ari Fleischer didn’t think President Obama was thankful enough, either. Stephen Hadley had some "words" for President Obama, too. Here’s Jeremy Scahill to offer his thanks to GWB! ;D And, Jeremy is PI$$ED! Damn, this segment ROCKS.
"Saint Beck" Is this seriously going to be a nightly segment?! Ugh...I don’t need to see Lonesome Rhodes on my television machine any more than I already do!
He didn’t get to hold George Washington’s inaugural speech. If we spent all our time & airwaves talking about how Lonesome Rhodes sparks up, we wouldn’t be able to discuss anything else! *&^%$#@!
WPITW – An Arkansas couple had a dying plant ‘splode on ‘em. Scott Walker has a lovely new campaign ad with boxing gloves running against a guy who was beat to nearly an inch of his life. The head of the GOBP in Hawaii doesn’t want Dems in churches. The GOBP is the only "righteous" candidate. The current GOBP Hawaii Governor is Jewish. Well, her people killed Christ, so she sure as $hit doesn’t get to wear the righteous moniker!
#1 "New Orleans Health Clinic" AKA "Health Care for All" - 1350 patients were treated at the 2 – day clinic in New Orleans. One of the most frequent diagnoses was depression. 19% of LA residents have no health insurance. Here’s Nicole Lamoureux! A woman with kidney stones there yesterday volunteered there today. Wow... And, most people didn’t know there were permanent free clinics to help them. Sadly, there was a shortage of doctors at the clinic. We helped to treat 10,000 patients with the clinics we helped to fun; WE RULE! :D
