With 8 days to go until the primary, the Boston Globe endorsed Mac D'Alessandro in his primary bid against Stephen Lynch. Mac is a true blue progressive. He's been pushing the progressive agenda since pounding the pavement with his mother when he was 12 years old.
Lynch is a Blue Dawg, if not a downright conservative. He's anti-choice, leaving women in the dark ages. He's pro-war. He voted against health care reform.
This is very clearly an Orange to Blue campaign. So, let's get the dkos community behind Mac.
Please contribute.
There are a few us around here who have been trying to get DailyKos to put Mac D'Alessandro on the Orange to Blue list. For those of us in the 9th Congressional District of Massachusetts, it is baffling that he isn't. Not only is he clearly aligned with the mission, he has a chance at winning. At this point, the momentum in the campaign is all his. But, he needs financial support to get over the finish line. Surely, DailyKos recognizes this candidate as worthy of our support.
Lest we forget, women's rights are under attack in our country. While there is a lot of talk about the economy and the wars (justly so), we need to be careful that anti-choice advocates don't set us back by slipping in under the radar. That means making sure we have pro-choice people in office. Lynch is anti-choice. That makes him dangerous. Meanwhile, Mac has won the following endorsements:
In this video, Andrea Miller, the Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts explains the NARAL endorsement:
The Globe explains that D'Alessandro is a better choice, not only based on policy positions, but also on the ability to work with others and get things done. They describe Lynch's tenure as follows:
But after nine years in Congress, there’s little evidence that Lynch’s independent path has led to much more than a string of frayed relationships. There have been times when constituents cheered Lynch’s willingness to buck the tide; but on other occasions, those same constituents were left scratching their heads.
They go on to talk about D'Alessandro's experience:
D’Alessandro has a ground-level perspective on the district. A graduate of Boston College Law School, he dedicated himself to community activism, first though Greater Boston Legal Services, where he rose to legislative director and lobbied Beacon Hill for job-training programs, and more recently as political director of the Massachusetts Service Employees’ International Union.
And describe his style:
D’Alessandro would be quite different: More cautious about military interventions...more willing to do the necessary work of reforming the economy... more eager to be a leader both in extending health coverage and in bringing research dollars to Massachusetts.
In the end they make this remarkable assessment:
Coming into Congress as a freshman, D’Alessandro would be at square one, but ironically would have more favor with his party’s leaders than Lynch. For nine years, Lynch has honorably followed his own path. D’Alessandro is an articulate advocate for working people who deserves a chance to show what he, too, can do.
Needless to say the D'Alessandro campaign is very excited to have received this endorsement in a primary. They have a lot of energy. They are the campaign with momentum right now. Still, they are the underdog without the resources of an incumbent. With just over a week to go, they are making a plea to help them raise $10,000 for media.
Here is their request:
Make a contribution. We need to raise another $10,000 in the next two days to meet our media budget. We've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in this campaign through small dollar donations, so we know we can do this. We just need enough people receiving this email to donate $25, $50, $100, or more -- will you be one of them?
Please help! We have the power to get him through this final week!
It would be great for D'Alessandro to see the DailyKos community as an ally when he is in office.
