With 7 days to go until the primary, I'm still hoping to see the DailyKos community show the Mac D'Alessandro campaign some real love.
Yesterday, the Boston Globe endorsed Mac D'Alessandro in his primary bid against Stephen Lynch. Mac is a true blue progressive. He's been pushing the progressive agenda since pounding the pavement with his mother when he was 12 years old.
Lynch is a big supporter of the invasion of Iraq and the war in Afghanistan. He's anti-choice. He voted against health care reform.
Lynch, in his own words: "I’m not known as a liberal." He's telling us he's not our guy.
This is very clearly an Orange to Blue campaign. So, let's get the dkos community behind Mac.
Please contribute.
Mac D'Alessandro really should be on the Orange to Blue list. Since he's not, officially, on the list, we have to keep beating the drum daily.
7 days to go and the momentum in the campaign is all his. OVer 300 volunteers pounding the pavement and dialing the phones. Endorsements from DFA and the Boston Globe. But, he needs financial support to get over the finish line. Surely, DailyKos recognizes this candidate as worthy of our support.
He's a labor candidate. He's a critic of the Patriot Act and the military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. I've heard him speak about the need to overturn corporate personhood. He has a degree in Human Ecology and Environmental Policy. And he's pro-choice.
Lest we forget, those who would keep women down by forcing them to give birth even when it is traumatic or would ruin their lives are constantly poised to destroy our right to choose. We can't afford to forget about this issue for even one election cycle. Lynch is anti-choice. That makes him dangerous. Meanwhile, Mac has won the following endorsements:
In this video, Andrea Miller, the Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts explains the NARAL endorsement:
I've met Mac D'Alessandro. I've heard him speak. He has a clear, strong voice which is not at all shrill. He's has a very present energy. You can see that he really listens and he's not afraid to admit he doesn't know something and to learn in front of a crowd. Most importantly, he does seem to be very in the know on all the issues which are important to us.
In addition to his superior policy positions, Mac has what promised to be a far more effective style.
The Globe noted it:
But after nine years in Congress, there’s little evidence that Lynch’s independent path has led to much more than a string of frayed relationships. There have been times when constituents cheered Lynch’s willingness to buck the tide; but on other occasions, those same constituents were left scratching their heads.
D’Alessandro would be quite different: More cautious about military interventions...more willing to do the necessary work of reforming the economy... more eager to be a leader both in extending health coverage and in bringing research dollars to Massachusetts.
In the end they make this remarkable assessment:
Coming into Congress as a freshman, D’Alessandro would be at square one, but ironically would have more favor with his party’s leaders than Lynch. For nine years, Lynch has honorably followed his own path. D’Alessandro is an articulate advocate for working people who deserves a chance to show what he, too, can do.
Needless to say the D'Alessandro campaign is very excited to have received this endorsement in a primary. They have a lot of energy. They are the campaign with momentum right now. Still, they are the underdog without the resources of an incumbent. With just over a week to go, they are making a plea to help them raise $10,000 for media.
Here is their request:
Make a contribution. We need to raise another $10,000 in the next two days to meet our media budget. We've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in this campaign through small dollar donations, so we know we can do this. We just need enough people receiving this email to donate $25, $50, $100, or more -- will you be one of them?
Please help! We have the power to get him through this final week!
It would be great for D'Alessandro to see the DailyKos community as an ally when he is in office.
