Like crazy paster Terry Jones says, "Send a clear message"
What could be clearer than organized local opposition to the threatened Quran Burn than a surging crowd armed with fire extinguishers, except maybe a well-time rain storm overhead?
Its not often I wish I still lived in Florida, today is one of those days.
I am sick and tired of watching that very confused "pastor" dig his heels in on nationwide TV. I sincerely hope other Gainesville-area civic and religious leaders become more visible, and I would love to see people lining up along the Dove World church property line to play a little game of Put Out That Fire.
This assumes of course the proposed Quran Burn will take place outdoors. I'm happy enough if they manage to torch their own building.
The fun begins as soon as the wood is stacked, and players dash past with a hefty buckets of water to drench the kindling. Or simply steal their kindling. Minus the local fire department onhand, an open burn in Florida is likely to set half the state ablaze.
Extra brownie points are awarded to anyone who is able to fully encase doomed Qurans with fire retardant foam.
The real game begins once the books hit the blaze, so be prepared with long fire tongs to grab the books out, perhaps these can all be made up into a display later. This play may require some classic football skills with different runners opening the way and defending the Rescuer.
I cannot imagine the local DA will go to much effort to indict or convict any counter-protestors, but since I am too far and too broke to drive from Wisconsin I'll happily chip in for bail funds. I expect many others will, too. Just do not do any actual property damage OK? Put out the bonfire and save the books, that is all.
Maybe a local Tshirt printer can whip up a batch of shirts for the Rescue Teams, I suppose a picture of a hand dropping a book into a flame crossed out by the usual NO red circle & line. See how many books your team can salvage to win! Yea!!
I suggest all rescued tomes be sent to the new mosque in New York City.
