a response to Markos' plea / spam that I give money to democratic campaigns, in the face of the democrats having failed us for the past 2 years.
Markos:
Thank you for your inspirational message. Although I don't think that it's a good idea for us to surrender to our new tea party overlords, one cannot help but to be extremely disappointed that our President has ignored us for the first 2 years of his only term in office. We, the inspired, hard-working backbone of his campaign for the presidency. We, the grounded, intelligent adults who had intended to raise the discourse in Washington above the crazy clown talk of the wingnutters from AM radio. Had Obama thrown us a bone, sure, I'd be willing to play. But backtracking on everything from torture to leaving Iraq immediately has disappointed me to no end. [Leaving 50,000 troops and 100,000+ Military contractors in Iraq is not Leaving Iraq and Ending the War]
To top if off, Obama played right into the hands of the right wing idiocracy by allowing 9/11 Mosque to become the meme. This was a brilliant demonstration that our President has lost his ability to lead, and that he is quite out of touch with the millions of Americans who are out of work -- like me -- and who are PISSED OFF that the government gave so many billions of dollars in handouts to the banksters during the economic crash, but couldn't even pass an unemployment extension in the Millions to those who are truly in need. The recovery plan has been an expensive joke ON the American people, as our growing unemployment and foreclosure rates are proving. For starters, Tim Geitner must go - he's a fucking idiot -- and he should be replaced by someone who knows what the hell he's doing. I recommend someone like Robert Reich or Paul Krugman who both have proven to recognize our economic weaknesses and have proposed several solutions for ending our current recesssion / depression.
The fact is, Obama's first impulse is to engage the Republicans by rolling over on his back like a brain-damaged dog unaware that he's just going to get kicked again. How can anyone negotiate from a clear imperative from the American people (more people voted for Obama than for McCain) if the Democrats don't band together and stand for something? That's not just Obama's fault, it's the fault of all the wishy-washy Democrats who DON'T speak out loudly and frequently about how the Republicans are the Party of No, who threaten to block all decent legislation by filibuster without the Dems actually FORCING them to filibuster. Had the incumbent Democrats pressed the Republicans to follow through on their threats, they could have actually gotten a lot of press out of the Republican obstructionism -- "Hey, you're losing your house because the Republicans hate America so much they won't let the Democrats pass some good laws."
I'm pissed off at ALL the Democrats for not standing together to bring real change to America. We voted for change, we voted for hope, and they lost my vote by caving in to the Republicans so quickly, quietly, and EAGERLY. The status quo sucks, and Obama hasn't done anything to break our current system of corporate donations controlling the entire legislative process. No real reforms have passed to ensure that another collapse won't happen because Congress was too busy kissing the banking / investment industry's ass, rather than FORCING BANKS TO REWRITE LOANS DOWN TO THE CURRENT VALUE OF PROPERTY, penalizing the banks, not just the homeowners.
I don't see why I should bother voting since the system is so stacked against all of us, and we're not being adequately represented by either house of Congress. I'm broke, there's not even LISTINGS for jobs in my field, and this decade is looking about as shitty for me as the Bush years.
