Hey! How are ya? Welcome to the pre-launch of...
Last week, Geenius at Wrok had what can only be called a bit of divine inspiration! In his wisdom he voiced (diaried) the idea of getting together those who would attend the 10.2.10 March in DC, but who can not due to finances, with those who would also like to go, and can (somewhat) afford it, but who can't make it due to other responsibilities and commitments.
Progressives supporting fellow progressives to increase event turnout and effectiveness!
BLIMEY! What a brilliant! What say we give it a go?
To be sure, I had my doubts. But it sounded like a great idea so I decided to get involved as best
I could, chatting with the others in the diary and trying to build up enthusiasm for the venture.
Thinking nothing much of it, I also replied with a wish to be able to attend the march, telling how I've not been home in 18 years (my son has never known his country) and how I'd love to be able to show him not only the capital of his birthright, but Progressives standing heel to toe in support of ideas and legislation which would have allowed us to stay in the USA had they existed when he was newly born.
A few replies and a chat or two back and forth later and I was a true believer! Two sponsors for the travel cost, getting us close to 1/2 way there, and an offer of a place to stay should we achieve our target!
Two people, who didn't know me from any other anonymous name on the internet, through the inherently good nature and the grace of their hearts and spirits, did the unbelievable and sponsored my son and I, with several others contacting us to express an interest in helping out as well. And someone else was willing to invite us into their home. Not only that, but pretty soon ride-sharing discussions were popping up and people were planning to contact other organizations!
I was impressed with the true grass-roots nature of the phenomena. Never having witnessed first hand the open generosity of others, with no more reward for their actions than the satisfaction of helping others to a common cause, I was quite blown away! I posted in a few other 10.2.10 March diaries and before long I had someone offering to help us get organized by sponsoring us with webspace and a URL and the 10.2.10 Mothership offering to include us if we were able to put something together.
Well, I'm not much of a web designer, and I'm no programmer, but I've dabbled in HTML and PHP in the past and so decided to give it a go. I hope you like Progressive Blue and Kos Orange, as they were my muse. The site isn't quite finished yet, but it's good enough to get online and push out to the eager masses!
ProgressiveSponsor.com is a free service and not for profit in any way. We do not collect any fees, for support or otherwise, and all sponsorships go to those needing assistance.
If you would like to help with the project, or the website (I need a lot of help there, as no doubt evidenced by the soreness of your eyes!), please contact me: diegouk@progressivesponsor.com
Thank you for your support. Please sign up and help get the word out!
THANK YOU!
