I have given this a great deal of thought.
The media is a problem.  Breaking news is not Breaking news.
A fire in California is not Breaking news to a Pittsburg couple trying to dodge a traffic jam on the east coast.

A Tsunami that rips through Thailand is not Breaking News
for people sunning in Miami.  It is newsworthy but not Breaking News.
100 airplanes about to drop missles on a country is Breaking News.

We the People need to take back our airwaves from opinionated assholes who are paid to scare the bejeebees out of folks for profit.  It can be done.  If you want news, check your local station, afterall that affects you.
Go to C-Span who does not opine but gives the news.  Check your own sources for  what people are calling news.

There is a difference in propoganda and news.  This country would be more safe and less vunerable to attack if people like the good pastor did not get air time.  If the Sean Hannity's and Glen Beck's and those on the left as well just shut up.  Is their voice any more important than yours?  Does their vote count any more?  NO !  What they are, is richer and making corporations and drug companies and hatemongers more dangerous.  We are not stupid people for the most part and yes there are sheep in America that will follow any Pied Piper with a story and sensationalism to hype their day.
We are being laughed at around the world because we sit in a world being told what to think, how to hate, how to believe and we buy it.  I say we start a movement of shutting down the media.  They will all get a big lesson on what journalism is about if people choose to buy newspapers and quit buying their BREAKING NEWS....

Want lies and propoganda, pick up a National Enquirer.  You get your jollies and know it for what it is.  Bull.
Quit treating the media as if they really are carrying news stories.
Starting today, I am not going to watch propoganda and all of that junk on tv.  Wanna bet I am a healthier person when I start this.  Of course the pharmas want you to watch Fox or CNN or MSNBC because your blood pressure rises and they then can sell you drugs.  It's a fix.
Wake up.  The Cable news networks and radio talk shows are dragging America down in the mud and into a ditch.  They are causing division and hatred and we should not be supporting this type of behavior.
People were indoctrinated in a situation at the movies with newsreels but they were not opinion.  We need to stop this train and we need to stop it now.
Quit bitchin about the media and shut em down.  Are they paying you for your blood pressure to rise?  Are they paying you to think?  Of course not.  What they are doing is causing strife among religions and the working legislators of America.  No air time, no viewers, no show, and back to work.  This is the answer to right track America.  The left or right wing cannot sustain  a shut down in the media market so one side or the other can shut it down but it would be nice to have a joint effort.

We will always have fringe and hate groups but the media does not need to give those folks air time.  I am going to show you some real breaking news that happened in my hometown in 1957..It never made it as Breaking News.  It changed the entire way gas was given a smell and this was actually breaking news but people in that day I guess were smarter than now.  It made it on World News but people today have too much time on their hands and instead of making themselves more profitable, they make Big Media and Corporations rich.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

The fact that the media is not treating this so called 'pastor' like a crazy fringe character is making my blood boil.  I just heard on MSNBC that Good Morning America is paying for this guy to fly to New York.  The MSM is stoking extremists to create a story.  They will not be satisfied until they destroy this country.

there is an on/off switch to turn off or change the station. You also don't have to purchase newspapers, magazines and the likes of such. We should have better, we should demand better, but we can not legislate for better. It is what it is, and it will remain that way until it is no longer profitable to the Corporations that own the news outlets. Until we can do something about that, we just have to accept it for what it is. I think the mocking done by the Daily show and other like programs sends a message, perhaps they will take heed or at least take it into consideration, they have become a joke, a big laughable joke.

The Republican Noise Machine by David Brock.  He's a reformed conservamedia pro who explains where and how the RW noise machine got its start and no, it is NOT Limbaugh, talk radio or Faux News.

How did 'Fair and Balanced' replace factual news?  With Nixon media paranoia and Roger Ailes was right there in the background learning how it's done.

This is a scary and revealing book and I thought I had it figured out, but what we think we have with Faux News is a refined version of media manipulation which started with the 'liberal media bias' lie which Nixon used to shut down unfavorable press coverage.

I recommend the book and I've done so in other Diaries.

Go to C-Span who does not opine but gives the news.

Then we could see some serious diaries and intelligent informed debate instead of Mainstream Drivel.

I have had dealings with C-Span and they are fair.  They are untouchable as far as
news coverage.  I have never met a nicer bunch of folks than the C-Span crowd when I won that contest and they paid me a visit and had me on C Span.
I meant everyword I wrote on that essay about C-Span and it is more true today than ever.

It is factual and broad. They actually do talk to people on the left, right , center, and unaffiliated. So don't expect to hear only the point of view you prefer. It is good to listen to the other side when they are actually presenting a rational argument in a coherent manner. You can look at the line up on Washington Journal online they list their guest, do a head count and you will see the balance right there.

distractions like Paris Hilton got busted for cocaine in Las Vegas and received special treatment by the cops OR Lindsay Lohan cried at her sentencing and was able to get a new, lenient "judge" to resentence her to nothing OR some other stupid shit non-event.

Meanwhile, the "news" media outright lies about some things because fact checking is an unnecessary expense that hurts the bottom line.

They also make sweetheart deals with government to exclusively cover selected events like NBC did with the withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq.  Journalists have become corporate tools.

Walter Cronkite, et. al. are having fits in Heaven about the way these so-called journalists are practicing their craft.  Prostitutes have more honor and integrity.

News is now entertainment to generate revenue when before Nixon it was once a financial loss to media corporations.

put a huge red light above their anchor
desk and they are already sitting there like they are on the View.  It is not journalism.  It needs to be done away with and we are the only ones who can hit their pocketbooks.  Ratings go down and they HAVE to relearn the trade or get out of the business.

  •  ADL: Time cover story rehashes anti-Semitic lies (0+ / 0-)

The ADL's response came after Times magazine revealed next week's cover story, titled "Why Israel Doesn’t Care About Peace," in which various prominent Israeli figures are quoted as stating that Israelis don't consider Palestinians an existential threat but as a nuisance to their economy.

    Today's article in Haartez

To be honest I don't know what to make of it other than disagreeing with the ADL reflexively because I am sure Time is not antisemitic. That being said you can't separate humans from common human behavior to eliminate common human canards from discussion involving certain human ethnic groups.

While the article itself, with the inside headline of "The good life and its dangers," center not on Israel's attitude toward peace but on its booming real estate market, night life, the controversial headline to appear on the cover of the next Time issue brought a strong response out of the ADL's chief, Abraham H. Foxman.

In a letter to Managing Editor Richard Stengel, Foxman called on the magazine’s editors to issue an apology to readers, both for the timing of the article and its calling up age-old anti-Semitic stereotypes about Jews and money.

“The insidious subtext of Israeli Jews being obsessed with money echoes the age-old anti-Semitic falsehood that Jews care about money above any other interest, in this case achieving piece with the Palestinians,” wrote Mr. Foxman.

So Jews can never be seen enjoying life or material wealth? Jews enjoy themselves like everyone else and that should go without saying. Every ethnic group will not be protected by authority of a public relations committee, we will all protected by embracing how we really are very similar no matter how strange the other appears on the surface. Just like in Genetics there is as much variation within a race or culture as there is between people from two separate cultures or ethnic groups. We can relate to Israelis enjoying the sun in the midst conflict. We have spent our time on the beach during our 8 years of war waged in two nations.
