Today is one of the most beautiful in the year to Muslims. It is the day after having completed the fast of Ramadan, Muslims gather in their best clothing to have a morning prayer and to celebrate any spiritual growth they have experienced during the fast.
In Atlanta, my community looked colorful, happy, and grateful for the successful completion of the fast. We greeted each other with joy and love, took pictures, ate food (in the daylight!) and kissed each other and our babies.
The controversy surrounding Islam and the Qur'an seemed light years away. In comparison to this spiritual high, the politics that accompany a possible book burning seem petty and small. Now,...about "MOOZ-LUM".
I wanted to alert this community to a new movie that is coming out very soon called "Mooz-lum". It is an independent film, starring Danny Glover,
Nia Long, Dorian Missick, Roger Guenever Smith. The lead role is played by Evan Ross, the son of Diana Ross.
It details the life of a young Muslim man and his spiritual and social struggles after 9/11. Here is the trailer for the film:
I strongly encourage everyone to support this film and deepen your understanding of American Muslims, 45% of whom are African-American.
God bless everyone----no exceptions.
Peace.
