I realize that Kos uses ads to raise revenue for the site, and I am truly grateful for that; however, I must say that in the past few days, some of the ads have made me wonder. In the past 24 hours, at the top of the home page, have been ads for Republican websites, Republican candidate's donation pages, and even an ad for the Republican Congressional Committee.
As I said, I understand that Kos uses ad revenue to provide us with this wonderful site, and I have no problem with ads, per se. That said, though, I have to wonder if there is any filtering of what ads get placed here. I suppose that, as I am not a subscriber (being unable to afford a subscription at the moment), I probably don't have the right to complain, but these ads did give me pause, because they simply don't seem to fit with the content of the site.
This morning, the ad for the RNCC was right at the top of the page, while the frontpage articles were all regarding the disaster that is the Republican Party. It felt to me like I had stepped straight into an episode of "The Twilight Zone." It was surreal to see that ad on this site, which has been referred to by the Republican Party as "The Great Orange Satan."
Please don't yell at me or tell me that, as it is Kos' site, he can put whatever he wants on it, because I am well aware of that. I truly appreciate the ability I have to be a member of this community, particularly as I live in an area that is mainly composed of die-hard conservatives. I love DailyKos and have a deep and abiding respect and admiration for many here; I just found these particular ads to be a little disconcerting.
UPDATE: To whoever gave me the one year gift subscription, I would like to express my gratitude for your kindness.
