...there is only one way to send a message, and it's NOT not voting.
For the past 30 years or more, the Republican party and their confederates in the MSM have been talking about how voting is pointless, and that your vote doesn't matter, and all the parties are the same, and it just sucks all over. They have been working to DRIVE DOWN PARTICIPATION in the electoral process for one very simple reason: there will always be more poor people in the world than rich people; especially if they keep making the rich richer and the poor poorer. And destroying everything in between.
They use their dog whistles, their hate, their anger, their fear, to drive their voters to the polls, all the while telling everyone else to stay home.
What else do they do?
Well, that depends on the state and the circumstances.
In many states, they make it so that poor people cannot vote at all: they make it so that the homeless cannot vote without an address; they send registered mail to the last known address, and if they get it back, they challenge the voter trying to vote in his old home district.
In many states, they make it so that the wage earners can't vote comfortably by making elections in the middle of the work week, generally in times of inclement weather.
In many states, they tell college students that they cannot vote in their college towns needing, instead, to vote in their home districts. And they don't say it until it's too late to get an absentee ballot.
In many states, they make it so that the infirmed can't vote by simply making polling places that have stairs, or making people stand up to vote.
In many states, they make it so that people in poor neighborhoods cannnot vote comfortable because there are old, broken down voting machines, and not enough of them.
In many states, they make it so that people who are new immigrants can't vote, because all the ballots are in English.
In many states, they make it so that people of poor education cannot vote because they cannot read the ballots. Of course, literacy tests are illegal, but they don't show pictures of the candidates, do they?
In many states, brown people regardless of accent can't vote because there are people outside threatening them with violence, or arrest, or immigration detention centers, or generally just being intimidating.
In many states, people with prison records can't vote; or people with names similar to convicts cannot vote, and can you tell me how many people there are with names like Pedro Gonzalez who are questioned as opposed to John Smith?
All of these demographics would skew Democratic. And, regardless of how they skew, it's undemocratic, by definition, to try to keep people from democracy.
And so, year after year, the number of voters decreases.
And that's not even talking about the spoiled ballots, or confusing "butterfly ballots" which overwhelmingly come from poor, black districts, unless they're from rich Jewish districts in southern Florida.
And that's not even talking about voting machines that put the vote by the Republican's name regardless of how the person voted.
And that's not even talking about the voting machines that can be hacked, or have no paper trail, and are put out by people who promised to do everything they could to get Republicans elected.
And that's how Republicans win. Because they do everything they can to make sure Democrats don't vote, and when they do, that their votes aren't counted.
It is INCUMBENT upon us, every one of us, to VOTE. It is the ONE AND ONLY WAY to make a statement. It is the ONLY VOICE YOU HAVE. Make sure that you vote. Make sure that everyone you know votes. Cajole people into voting. It is not only their right, it is their duty. And when PEOPLE vote, Democrats win. And when LOTS of PEOPLE vote, Democrats feel more comfortable passing laws to help PEOPLE.
After all, corporations may be powerful, but they cannot vote, and, really, all they can do is give money to get people to VOTE their way or to stay home (which is the Same.Damn.Thing).
Vote. Register others to vote. Talk in schools about how important it is to vote. Talk on the bus about how important it is to vote. Talk to the people in line at the grocery store how important it is to vote. Talk to people in the elevator about how important it is to vote.
You know the reddies are going to vote. Are you going to let the 20% of the country that's just plain batshit crazy take this country down and the rest of the world with it?
Vote, for God's sake, VOTE.
