To my dismay, I am on David Vitter's e-mail list. I have requested removal from it several times but I still receive a few e-mails a week. I'm not sure how I ended up on the list, though I may have contacted his office years ago protesting the injustice of his abstinence only education policies; the idea that he would demand more self-restraint from teenage citizens of Louisiana - young people wrestling with physical and emotional and hormonal drives for the first time - than he could muster himself as a 40-year-old married man is deeply upsetting to me. He won't teach Louisiana teens about birth control or safe sex? Did he use condoms during his sexual encounters with prostitutes? I want to know. I want to know why he asks more of my children than of himself.
The latest e-mail from Vitter contains blatantly false information about tax increases, literally calling Obama's proposals "the largest tax increase in American history" and condemning Charlie Melancon for supporting them. How can he do it? I have no idea. I don't know what twisted set of figures he is using to arrive at this statement, if he feels a need to support it at all.
The content of his latest e-mail follows below the fold.
As Congress reconvenes this week, the agenda will be focused on the economy and creating jobs. But guess what President Obama and Charlie Melancon's plan is- allow current tax cuts to expire.
Allowing these current lower tax rates to expire will result in the largest tax increase in American history. And all this will happen right in the middle of a tough economic recession.
Charlie Melancon has clearly stated that his position on this tax issue is again right in line with President Obama. Louisianians are very concerned about their pocketbooks and Charlie Melancon is again siding with Obama on policies that could further hurt our economic recovery.
This shouldn't come as a surprise. Melancon has voted with President Obama 84 percent of the time and when asked to grade Obama, he gave him an "A."
Please join me in fighting against this massive tax increase by donating $25, $50, $100 or $250 to my campaign.
Charlie Melancon has supported all of Obama's bailouts, his bloated, ineffective stimulus and his budget that triples the debt. Now he's supporting Obama's agenda to raise taxes in the middle of a recession. Don't forget, Melancon insists he doesn't want to repeal Obamacare.
In this Senate campaign, remember to pay attention to the voting records and the issues. Charlie Melancon wants to paint you a picture that doesn't square with his policy stances, but don't be fooled.
Instead of the bailout mania and wasteful spending that has taken over Washington, I will continue fighting for common sense conservative solutions to help get our economy back on track. For example, my No Cost Stimulus bill would save or create more than two million jobs by harnessing and increasing domestic energy production – at no cost to the federal government. And, I will continue fighting to stop the largest tax increase in American history.
Thank you very much for your continued support.
Sincerely,
David Vitter
I am trying to convince myself to muster up the courage to go to one of his town hall meetings and ask him some questions. I would like to ask him how he can say that the coming legislation proposes the largest tax increase in American history. But, more than that, I really would like to ask him the following:
"You don't believe in teaching Louisiana teens about birth control and safe sex. Did you, in your extramarital sexual encounters with prostitutes, use any form of contraception? If you didn't, are you crazy? If you did, how can you live with your own hypocrisy?"
