You Should Be.
These Republicans are not like anything we've ever seen before. They are blind to science and reason. They want to shut down education so that the next generation of kids will be, too. They want to shut down government because every penny that goes to help a starving person isn't lining the pockets of a billionaire. And they've got infinite funding from people who want to keep it that way.
BUT.
There are more Democrats than Republicans. There always have been. There always will be. Because there will always be more have-not's than have's. There will always be more poor than rich. And, that's the way the rich and the have's want it, so they drive the chasm between rich and poor ever wider.
But, they are not what Americans think of as being American. Americans like the idea of fairness. These people do not. Americans like the idea of justice. These people do not. Americans like the idea of equality. These people do not. Americans like the idea of banding together in tough times, rolling up our sleeves and working together to accomplish great things. These people do not.
But we can't count on the media to get the message across. Here's what we've got: we've got each other. There are 200,000 of us. And we all have friends. And we all have FaceBook/MySpace pages. And we all have email lists. And we all interface with people we know, and people we don't know everyday.
So, here's what we have to do. You, and me, and all your friends. Ready? Work like hell. Roll up your sleeves and work like hell. Make calls. Knock on doors. Write letters to the editor. Write letters to your neighbors. Write letters to complete strangers. Donate time. Donate money. Talk to the people you work with. Talk to the people on the train. Talk to the people at the grocery store. Talk to the homeless guy trying to sell you a paper.
Remember, there are more Democrats than Republicans in this country, there always will be. And as far to the Right as the Republicans have gone this time, there's a lot of room to take people in the middle, the Independents and say "Listen, if there's no room in the Republican Party for people like Arlen Specter, ok. But, Bob Bennett? Really? Surely if there's not room in the Republican Party for a Bob Bennett, there's clearly no room for people like you." It's about talking to your gay friends and your Jewish friends and your Hispanic friends and your African American friends. It's about talking to the college students you know, or your kids, or the college students your kids know.
It's all about getting out the vote.
Now.
Get to work.
