Per Markos on Twitter:
Is the Gallup generic congressional ballot only relevant when it shows GOP leading, not the Dems?
NewportPRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup's generic ballot for Congress for the week of Sept. 13-19 shows a 46% Democratic and 45% Republican split in registered voters' preferences for the midterm congressional elections. It is the second week out of the last three in which the two parties have been virtually tied.
We won last week but the GOP still has the advantage for September
Gallup's tracking shows a shift from a 49% to 43% Republican advantage in August to a 46% to 45% GOP advantage so far in September. Both of these estimates are based on very large samples, with more than 7,000 interviews conducted in August and more than 5,600 so far in September.
Before we get too irrationally exhuberant, that lead is for one week. One week does not an election win. And while I'm on the subject of elections, President Obama said this morning what I think is the most important thing we can push the media to do:
"So the challenge, I think, for the Tea Party movement is to identify, specifically, what would you do?" he added. "It's not enough just to say get control of spending. I think it's important for you to say, I'm willing to cut veterans' benefits or I'm willing to cut Medicare or Social Security benefits or I'm willing to see these taxes go up
Of course we can't pass up moments of idiocy or hypocrisy (See grannyhelen's rec listed diary here) but someone, somewhere, somehow must get the tea party candidates to say what they will do.
Chris Wallace made a real attempt to get Joe Miller to say what he would do, to no avail. Front page article
Evasion will only work so long.
