Anyone in the DC area for the march or for any other reason (what other possible reason could there be?!) please join us Friday night....
In the process of arranging for lodgings for some out of towners for the BIG 10/2 One Nation March in DC, hopeful and I had the idea to have a Social/Meetup/Event on Friday evening to get to know some of our fellow Kossacks. We have a couple places in mind that are walking distance from the Dupont Circle Metro stop (Red Line, Midtown DC) and we need your input to know which to book. Follow below for more.
I've been writing around here for over two years now, and I would certainly like to put some faces with the usernames I see. I also would love the opportunity to meet with anyone who is making the trek to DC this October!!
We are putting together a Friday 10/1 6-9pm Social/Meetup at a DC restaurant/bar TBD. We need your input!! We need to get an idea for the numbers we might expect. Hopeful and I will keep in touch and post multiple diaries describing the event, and we will follow the comments to see who's interested. We have a couple good options that won't charge for the room--they just will have a minimum food/drink order--starting at $800. If we get 40 people, that's $20 of food and drink per head (+tip). The venues are located near Dupont Circle, so that anyone who wants to get there can take the Metro and if you want to go out after--you'll already be downtown near some great night life. Just let us know in comments if you are 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% coming--we'll take care of the rest. We have to make a decision by Friday, and details about the selection will be posted as soon as we decide.
If you have not been to DC, what are you waiting for? If you have not been to DC lately--there is so much to see and do in addition to the One Nation March. The early fall is the perfect time for a DC visit. Get fired up and come to the capitol!! I will post some informational diaries about things to do around here in the next few days too. If you can drive to DC, grab some friends, saddle up, and go. You've got 10+ days decide if you don't have to hop on a plane. If you must fly--time's running out.
Here are some pics of my favorite DC haunts:
The FDR Memorial--OF Course!!
Here it is at night:
The National Portrait Gallery is a great museum, and right now they have the Spielberg/Lucas collection of Norman Rockwell paintings--definitely worth seeing:
The Atrium inside is beautiful:
One of my favorite night spots is Blues Alley--I saw the Count Basie Orchestra here--they still tour, although I don't think there are any original members left.
As you're headed out of the city from Blues Alley, check out the Exorcist Stairs in Georgetown:
More reasons to visit DC to follow--make your plans now!!! See you in October!!
